I had the large bowl with chicken and it was really good! The chicken was fresh and nicely crunchy, the sauce was delicious, and the portion size was generous. The staff were all really nice too. Definitely recommend!
Nice food and staff, however a couple of points that would add a few stars for me. Firstly, it's not clearly stated they only allow 5 salad options (cmon guys, it's salad). Every other Don bowl shop I know of in town doesn't limit salad selection. Secondly, confusing naming of meat selections, chicken karaage is simply Japanese fried chicken. Not some fancy marinaded meatball in sauce. Thirdly, when someone asks for onion as one of their salad selections, they usually don't mean a litteral half a red onion.
Wonderful meal and an excellent service! Have never tried this in the past, but after being introduced by my colleague, it became a favourite. This one lady wearing glasses was very friendly and nice also! Everyone of them are. Thank you, Ichiban! You’ve scored yourself a regular :)
I advise you not to buy fried chicken here - more than the 2/3 of “chickens” are just skin or deep fried butter as you can see in the photo attached. Definitely the worst fried chicken I bought ever!! So disappointing.
Service was quite lag having to wait long before my seafood udon arrived. Ready served meal should be faster. Fortunately the food tastes good for a bowl plus gree tea NZ16.50.
I used to like the food, staff and service but over the past 6-12 months the food quality and service has dropped. I bought a bento bowl and when I got home and opened it, it was just cold rice and cold chicken. It was displayed under the sign that stated it had coleslaw, mayo and ginger for 11.90. When I rang to mention what I had got I was told they make the plain bowls of just rice and chicken because some people prefer it that way and they charge the same price for half the meal. That doesn't explain why it was by the sign stating it had all the ingredients. It was implied I didn't look properly, I disagree and wonder how many bowl's have they sold with half the produce because maybe they put the bowls in the wrong place hoping no one notices. They charge full price but the meal cost them half what the full bowl does. I didn't put the bowl or the sign there, their staff do.
Best quality of Japanese food in Chch. Especially Bentos are amazing. I like the food there because they are served exactly same as the pictures shown on the menu board above the counter. Other foods are fantastic too in price wise and the quality. wouldn't be disappointed.
A hidden gem in hornby. Fresh fast Japanese. Order from their menu for great Japanese fast food.
