I attended this venue for my work function with friends on Sat 6/12/25 from 7pm and was shocked at how much it’s gone downhill. I’d been here years ago when it was the go-to spot, but this time the service and management were genuinely disappointing. The venue looked great on arrival, but it ended there. Some of us don’t drink, so we asked for mocktails or soft drinks—only to be told no. Instead, we were pushed to buy zero-alcohol beer or non-alcoholic wine starting at $12. I bought three and was charged $52 for them. Outrageous. Hiking prices to hit a $5,000 bar tab is basically extortion. Other guests also complained they couldn’t order cocktails at all. For a city venue hosting a staff function—with DJs we personally know from our workplace—this felt unprofessional and unwelcoming. Staff also kept removing drinks if someone left the table briefly, even to use the bathroom. When a colleague gave feedback, the Duty Manager was rude, dismissive, and threatened to remove them from the venue if it happened again. Threatening and intimidating paying customers? Ridiculous. No one was told about any “unattended drink” policy, and even if it exists, that’s no way to communicate it. ITS Not law here in Aotearoa!!! To the Duty Manager and Owner: rethink how you treat customers. People want a good experience—not just a place to stand and spend money. The water bottles were honestly better than the overpriced, tangy drinks we were served. Overall, The Oakroom failed badly that night. We recently hosted a 21st birthday party at The Oakroom, and it was absolutely fantastic! The venue was stylish, spacious, and had a great atmosphere. Rohini and the team were wonderful and made sure everything ran smoothly from start to finish. Drinks and food were top-notch, and the staff were friendly and attentive throughout the night. Highly recommend The Oakroom for any special occasion or group event. Thank you for making the celebration so memorable!
Beautiful location and look. The events team were super helpful, supportive and their staff were amazing on the event night. We had the pleasure of hosting our company's 10th anniversary there, and they were absolutely fantastic! The band had enough space, the sound was good, and the photo booth location was great! Having the friendly security team at the front door was a great plus. Very comfortable for a party of close to 70 guests. Thanks very much Corey, Rohini and the team!
We went to the ancient roman themed night for dinner and it was fantastic. The food was so delicious, and the host was attentive and knowledgeable about the history and paired wines. With great pacing the whole meal experience was 10/10. We'll be back for the next themed night.

Our company provided to Photo Booth for a private event at the Oak room, and were treated to some of the best hospitality and food in town. So we have to let the whole world know that we love the Oakroom, their food and their service. Shout out to Rohini who was our lovely host on the night. Can't wait to go back soon. Rach

We recently held an event here. The security kicked about half of the guests out, some with reason and many without reason. The bar staff were constantly taking away full and half drunk glasses when people had there backs turned and we had to constantly ask them to bring these back. Reading the reviews, it feels like this is a common occurrence. Host an event, we paid extra for security (which i was initially overcharged on until i queried it in final invoice, to then kick out half the guests and then pay for drinks to have them taken away when you are not looking. Seems quite an odd way to conduct an event actually actually, people spend money on drinks, they are then taken them away before they have a chance to drink them and then eject half of the guests. We also were told the venue was open until 3am but the lights were turned on at 1.15am, probably due to the fact that the guests had lessened but it should have been up to the people paying for the event when the lights go on. Overall, i spent alot of money on an event and feel like the overall night was not what i had planned for months for due to the various reasons above
