Like Huey Lewis says sometimes bad is bad. This place is a last resort dump. Go to city lodge on Vincent a block away pay 10 more dollars for a vastly better experience. I've stayed at hostels in Mexico nicer than this one.

The hostel is very centrally located in Auckland CBD, making it convenient for sightseeing, public transport and walking to many spots. Many reviewers highlight the staff as helpful and friendly. One site noted: βStaff is really helpful and kindβ¦ value honestly you will get what you pay.β According to the hostelβs website, there are large shared kitchens, lounge/TV room, free high-speed WiFi, parking availability. Many travellers say that if you are staying only a few nights and are budget-conscious, it βdoes the trickβ. From reviews: βIt was ok but you got what you paid for. β¦ close to city centre and affordable.

This hostel might be for you if midnight vacuum cleaning through paper thin walls is relaxing to you. If not, I would recommend a more intelligently run place.

Don't normally write reviews as pretty positive person but this was unreal. My partner and i only lasted 30min out of a 3 night stay. Asked for a refund and was told no. This place is Soo bad I was happy to take the loss. We found alternative accomodations around the corner at the ymca for comparable price. Bedwas super lumpy and and room smelled of chemicals. Common areas were dirty. Definitely did not feel ok for my girlfriend to stay and would not recommend to other solo female travelers. Would consider sleeping in my car to be a better option. Can't believe people rate this more than a two at best.

Stayed here about 3 years ago and just had a conversation with my then travel companion about this place and felt like I just had to leave a comment now aswell: Just on the first day I had left my brand new headphones on my bed in the night when I went to the bathroom. I came back and they were gone. Most probably stolen by some homeless drunk that lives there. Some indian family looked like they were probably living there permanently, with all their personal belonging scattered everywhere. The dad was constantly on the Phone and talking loudly, even until early morning, and they had a horrid smell that infected the whole dorm. The Mother had hidden away Indian Food under her bunk and it smelled like it was going bad already. Worst experience ever. Ididnβt sleep for the two nights we had booked there and, as a result, had the worst two days at my temporary dayjob. Go to a different hostel, even if it is slightly more expensive. It will save you a lot of pain.

I would have given a zero star if possible. Worst service , dirty bedsheets , worst toilets , bathrooms , no toilet papers in toilets , no handwash. Room and hallways was stinking as hell. Bedsheet and comforter dirty , looked like never washed. No ventilation in dark rooms. Booked online , they charged me twice once they ask me to pay on counter and then also charged my credit card which I used for booking without even asking me. Have to ask 3 times alteast to get my refund of extra money deducted. Rude staff , stinky place. Would not recommend at all.

If you ask the staff friendly you can do laundry for free! Kitchen isn't the largest one I saw in a Hostel but it was clean and there was enough space to cook when it wasn't busy price performance was good for me

Do not book here! The website is very misleading. We booked a private room for 6x people. We got there and they had split us all up through 3 different rooms. None of the toilets lock with no toilet paper available (even when asked). The rooms were messy (stains top to bottom, rubbish and dirty clothes were left behind by past backpackers) There are also NO WINDOWS in the toilets and bedrooms. Horrible experience, felt like I was in the backrooms

Iβve been travelling for 5 years now and this is in the top 3 worse hostels Iβve ever stayed in. Half the people there seemed to permanently live there and half backpackers. Draws in a sketchy crowd as well. Roomed reeked of smelly shoes and always had this pungent smell. No A/C so room was boiling hot with that smell. Mold everywhere especially the bathrooms which were also always flooded. Kitchen was gross cooked there for one night and couldnβt stand it anymore. Run.

No words to describe the staff, absolute stars for the hospitality! Front desk + manager are good people. Room wise, it is as much as a backpackers can get. Might need some sun during the day to ventilate which was lacking. Might need a more thorough clean-out. Carpets can do with a good one time cleaning too. But for the cheapest bed in town, you cannot complain can you? Tbh, you just gotta pay more to stay at the next closest hostel for a "cleaner" experience. Kitchen's pretty busy at times. Crowded fridge, limited dining area. It was fun to see all sorts of people from everywhere, drunk people, people with diverse backgrounds. Very interesting yet relatively safe.
