Food was ok. Service at tables very poor - very slow. 10 minutes for a wine, after giving up waiting - food was 30 minutes from order (2 burgers and a salmon). No water on table - had to ask. Seemed popular enough - and the staff were polite looked they were trying. The garlic bread was good. Prices were ok.

Wow what an experience!! We celebrated a birthday at the restaurant. They went above and beyond to make our evening special. The food was amazing, great value for money and most of all the staff and service was exceptional. Thank you so much!!

We had the most amazing function at the Portside bar, my daughterβs 1st birthday! The staff were absolutely amazing, the venue was open, bright and very clean. Vickie made organising super easy! Would highly recommend for any event!

Firstly, this building is a lovely old heritage building, dated 1851. However, the owners and staff have let this historical building and business down, due to poor service, lack of cleanliness and a mismash of furnishings and alterations not in keeping with a historical building such as this. We were booked to stay for 2 nights, however as our room was so uncomfortable, we left early the next morning. Having stayed only 1 night. Our check in procedure was less than satisfactory, with staff leaving us to stand at the bar for 20 minutes while we waited to be checked in. We were charged $440 dollars for what was described as a 'Deluxe room' with en-suite. This room was far from 'Deluxe' Although the En-suite must have cost a fortune to put in, the design was not in keeping with the period style of this building. The window frames throughout our room were covered in cobwebs. The room felt dirty. We had to wear slippers as the carpet felt 'unclean' The bed was lumpy and uncomfortable. We woke with a sore back the next morning. The TV did not work. We had no bed side lighting. We had to ask for Towels, flannels and a bath mat. Large pieces of paint was peeling from the ceiling. We had only 1 old rocker chair to sit on. No table or chairs to sit at and eat food on, or use our computer. The room had what I described as a 'Dirty smelly sock smell' We had to go down to the office to ask for the 'complimentary' wifi password. We had no tea or coffee making facilities in our room, which we would have expected in a 'Deluxe room' We only found out the morning we left that there was a communal kitchen in the hallway with coffee facilities, however it had no complimentary coffee or milk. Go figure. When we booked in, it was late, so we decided to have dinner in the hotel restaurant which was a far from acceptable experience. The food was not as described. We ordered a bottle of wine with our meal only to have 1 glass of wine delivered to the table, while I was left with nothing, having to then go and ask for the 'bottle' i ordered and a glass for myself. All in all, not a good experience for us and quite a sad reflection on Waiuku. Be advised. This is a pub with rooms, not a hotel.

We didn't stay in the rooms but we had drinks from bar and a meal. Service wasn't great. Barmaid couldn't pour a beer. The waitress was nice but the food was not great. The scotch steak wasn't even the size of my palm. It has 2 tiny pieces (maybe a quarter) of potato a tiny piece of pumpkin and 2 tiny carrots. The chicken schnitzel was large but the chicken was so bland. The coleslaw dressing was unedible. I thought the other reviews sounded harsh to I tried. The toilets were not nice and could do with a good clean. The dinning area was so loud too we could barely hear each other.

As a local we have tried and tried again to give the Kentish a good chance to prove their food ainβt that bad. Today I was served a raw chicken dish.. we will never be back to eat and honestly I really hope they start to get this right. You have an amazing location with so much history. Your food is well below par. Get help to ensure you can improve this.

We had an evening meal here, nice atmosphere next to the fire. The lady managing the bar was super friendly and helpful. Burger meals were excellent, however fish and chip meal was disappointing and let the evening down, two small pieces of fish and chips, looked like a childs meal. It is a shame when the kitchen lets down the hard work at the front end.

Went here, with a small group, for lunch on a weekday. The restaurant is readonably-sized, and the large windows offered some pleasant views across the Waiuku area. The menu was a little odd; some descriptions were not very clear. The service was laid-back but efficient. There were about 12 other diners, and meals came quite quickly. I found out later that I could have added about seniors specials. Meals all seemed to be of good quality and quantity. Overall, it was a small step above other country hotels in NZ. All staff I encountered were natural, helpful and unpretentious.

Did not have 2 of the wines that were on the wine list. Put us on the deck where it was cold and would not move us. Food was very nice though. This is the 3rd time we have been here and always have some sort of issue. Won't be going again.
