   Disappointed by poor service and lack of accountability. Came here with friends after an exam — most of the table ordered toasties and burgers. I ordered a toastie, but never received it. One person ordered two toasties, which were brought out on the same plate without the server clearly explaining whose was whose. No one at the table realised I hadn’t received mine until it was too late. When I raised this with staff, I was spoken to rudely and told it was a “me problem.” No attempt was made to resolve the issue at the time, and I was left hungry and dismissed. Even after following up by email, the response felt defensive rather than understanding — with the blame placed back on our group. Accidents happen, but it’s the way they’re handled that matters. In this case, the lack of clear communication and poor attitude from staff left a really bad impression. Won’t be returning anytime soon.

   Always come to shadows with my friends for food, coffee or some drinks. However today i was met with the most rude and judgy worker i have ever experienced. Not sure what went wrong in her day but she was unbelievably hostile for absolutely no reason, I simply ordered a coffee and handed her my ID when asked. 3 of my other friends who arrived after me also came in shocked with how she treated them! Not one to leave reviews but this girl really pissed me off and made me not want to go back during the day time. Usually the staff are lovely, so just avoid going at after 1 on a tuesday

   Some lady was shouting out 'free food' for an AUSA AGM meeting so I went in there and had some wedges and pizza. That was nice of them to invite anyone and everyone lel. They were giving away free prizes quizzing people. Venue was packed, atmosphere adequate. You can sign up to AUSA for some discounts. They say they do $8 jugs there if you do drink alcohol.

   Came into our old uni bar with the boys for a stag night. Only wanted the one drink. After we decided to polish a couple off in old boys manner they cut us off. Outrage was had and the night was thrown into chaos. Lives were destroyed and my stag man was crushed. Nothing would have satisfied him more than dusting a good shadows lager. Hope the place has a serious internal review before we even consider returning.

   Cannot recommend. Staff aren’t well trained and the general attitude feels like they either don’t want to be there or don’t want you to be there. Actual bar layout is fine but pretty meh. Inexpensive but you get what you pay for. I miss old Shads.

   Great prices. Really loved the pool tables (however, they’re often out of service), keep in mind they only accept $2 coins which the staff were happy to exchange. Furniture is a bit run down and floors/tables sticky but that didn’t damper the mood. As expected from a student bar. Nothing more nothing less. Be advised there is a wicked wait to get in on Friday and Saturday nights.

   Loved the place. Went here at night. Music gradually gets louder throughout the evening, inviting to dance. If that’s not your thing there’s also plenty of space to sit down and have drinks. Beer prices are great for Auckland, we paid $12 for a jug. Staff was friendly and the place itself relatively clean (-for a bar). Easy to reach from the city, worth a visit!
