Great experience at Wilson BBQ Johnsonville, highly recommend!!! - nice premises, with outdoor area, perfect for a sunny day - good location - excellent service - great food - good standard prices Came here for dinner recently to celebrate a birthday and overall it was a great experience! We had people travelling from different areas out of the Wellington region and due to traffic we were all late. I apologised and explained the others were still 10-20mins away & the team were so friendly and accommodating. The gentleman took our drinks order and let us know the which were on special which led to all the kids getting milkshakes. Some of the family take forever and a day to make up their mind so hats off to him for being so patient and not making them feel rushed or pressured. It was partly because we were watching the other tables orders come out which had us thinking - ‘that looks good, what’s that, I want that, no I want that’’ - I kinda wish they had pictures next to the description on the menu… Lots of good options on the menu and gentleman took our order - by memory! It’s so impressive when someone can take an order by memory, for 7people, including all the “but no xyz or can I add xyz” first time and not muck it up! Well done! Our meals came out really quickly (10mins if that) all together, hot and well presented and good portion sizes. Everyone enjoyed their meal and those that couldn’t eat it all, took it home. Hot chips - outstanding! My burger was delicious, good meat and plenty of sauce. I personally would’ve liked a little salad or coleslaw in/with it just to cut through the meatiness but just me being fussy. The guy checked on us regularly to ensure our satisfaction and was quick to fill up our waters/drinks and grab any extra condiments we requested. In all honesty the service was one of the highlights of the evening. All the team were friendly and welcoming but our server, the (Indian?) gentleman was in particular a fantastic. He had a really great sense of humour that was not only genuine and enjoyable but he could subtly upsell without you even realising it (I only noticed cause that’s what I do in my job haha) From a business perspective an employee like this is such an asset because they bring in those extra dollars simply by making the effort. Many thanks!!!

Went in on a cold Wednesday for some lunch and had the loaded hash bites. SOOOO good. Me and my boyfriend were raving about it on the walk home. 15.90 I think is very affordable for wagu brisket on hash bites. The meat was tender and the sauces were delicious. Very good customer service too. Very friendly and kind. Definitely would eat here again!

WORSE PLACE I'VE EVER BEEN TO Platters are ridiculously small and poorly portioned and the food is some the driest I've ever had. Burger was inedible no taste and dry like it's been sitting out for hours on a stale bun that you buy from the supermarket. Sausage can't even chew. The rest was OK but you're given nearly none of it for a platter I was expecting more then a single rib the size of my finger and if you run out of potato salad and anything else at least try and substitute it or let the person know I can understand it can get busy sometimes but to serve that for what you pay is bad. And to leave hungry after spending $68 per person is even worse only thing i can say was any good here are there milkshakes. I eat out a lot and I've never had this much of a bad experience honestly save your time and money

Overall thought it was very average for the price. Platters were disappointing smaller than I would have expected. Generic buns and coleslaw making 2 of the components of the platter… brisket was dry. Ribs and sauce were the only thing I really enjoyed. Staff were friendly and attentive.

Three of us tried THE BRISKET JAMMINATOR, their Wellington On A Plate Burger last night. Beef patty, with smoked mānuka brisket cheesesteak, in a parmesan cup, burger sauce and bone marrow bacon jam in a Brezelmania milk bun served with fries for $29. I had a lovely blood orange gin & tonic to go with it. They were delicious. They also had a gluten free bread option. Friendly service. We all left very full and happy. Thank you for the lovely evening!

Nice bbq / smoke house restaurant. Service was good, food was good. Brisket was very tender, and platter for 1 was a good mix of options.

We ordered the platter for two. While the flavour had potential, because the meat was barely warm, it was unappealing. I did mention the fact that the meat was not hot enough to the waiter when he eventually came to ask how our meal was but he simply left us with a ‘sorry about that’. The food was quick to be delivered after we ordered which left me with the feeling that the meat probably had been precooked and poorly ‘heated’ before serving. They have an air curtain over the front door but that either had it off or it needs replacing because every time the front door opened we got blasted with a gust of cold air.

I did a review back when it opened and my experience was only okay but have since been back a few more times recently and I have to say they've upped their game in a massive way. Serving sizes are a lot bigger but not only that, the quality is better. Customer service is excellent and the atmosphere is great and welcoming. The food is consistently amazing at the moment, the burger specials are also amazing. I had this amazing chicken burger (can't remember what it's called but I'll post a photo) and it changed my life! Definitely recommend giving Wilson BBQ a visit!!

I went with a large group and the verdicts were: Brisket - a bit dry and not particularly well flavoured Ribs - quite nice despite coming out slightly cold Pulled pork - decent Chicken wings - very average Chips - dry and not particularly well seasoned, had the floury texture you'd expect from undercooked chips. Corn bread - incredibly dry, little to no flavour and the honey butter spread wasn't very nice; not many of us ended up finishing them Potato salad - quite nice, flavoursome with a nice tang Creamed corn - tasty, good texture and consistency Overall, a passable barbeque offering with some very hit and miss side dishes. Presentation was good but lacking consistency in quality to back it up. With that said, the food was considered overpriced for the quality received.

Great burgers and sides! Had lunch here on a Saturday and enjoyed it! Burgers were large and sides were generous. Menu is a good size with plenty of options without being overwhelming. We went with the chicken burger, pulled pork burger, loaded fries and cheesy Mac bites. Restaurant is quite large so can cater to a good group size. Food service was relatively quick too.
