I went to Oronegro to buy a pounamu necklace for my mother and I was very happy to choose this shop. The owner is such a nice guy, I stayed with him for 3 hours and had great conversations with him. It was so interesting to hear all about the stones and him making the jewellery. They source the original NZ greenstone directly from the tribes and carve the stone to perfection. Ernesto also took the time to trace back the origin of my stone. When I came back the next day to decide which one I wanted to get, he was very happy to see me and gifted me some of his work to give to my father. I cannot express how thankful I am for that and the entire experience. I felt very well looked after and I am very happy to support his family owned business. Please, if you are looking to buy some NZ greenstone jewellery, go to Oronegro and support a local business. They are artists in what they do! Thank you for everything Ernesto, you are the best!!

Truely amazing restoration done with so much care and love. Don’t ask for a repair to be done in a week. Understand how much time and effort they put into their work. In the light you can see the level of work that has been done to put my very special and personal piece back together. Ernesto understands the importance of your pieces regardless of the value dollar wise.

Happen to chance upon this humble cozy little place. Wasn't expecting to make any purchase, but upon entering Hernesto was super warm and cute, explaining every piece of artwork in his shop. Superb warm and humble guy. They do everything in house, unlike imported jade. Hernesto remembers every piece of stone carved, and who carved it. A very sincere shop. Contemporary designs to fit any age besides skillfully crafted traditional pieces. New meets old. Yet with so much charm and warmth. Great experience, one of the best I would say.

Came to Oronegro with the initial intention to have a few pieces re-chorded and was considering options for gifts for family. As soon as I walked in the quality and craftsmanship spoke for its selfβ€”quite loudly. Ernesto is incredibly knowledgeable, experienced, and sincere (living up to his name). I couldn’t be happier. Go here. His shop is a taonga in and of itself.

I was just browsing the pounamu when Hernesto kindly took the time to explain the whole process and even let me visit the workshop. I couldn’t afford a piece of jewelry this time, but he generously let me take a small offcut of greenstone. Big thanks to him and the whole team, such a welcoming and passionate group of people!

Incredible, awesome, creative, caring, patient, kind, great value, THE BEST Commissioned 4 pieces with Ernesto and Sebastian and love each piece they have created. When you commission someone to make something for you, especially something as personal as jewellery, you have to put your full trust in them and allow them to follow the creative process. We were kept upto date on progress and met several times to see how each piece was going. For us this is all part of the experience and not just receiving a beautiful piece of art that they make. Would highly recommend Ernesto and Sebastian to make that special piece for you or to checkout pieces already made.

Couldn't be happier with my whole experience with Ernesto and his team. I had a new cord woven for a very old taonga that I was anxious to leave. My taonga was in safe and loving hands and my new cord is perfect. I learned how my taonga had been shaped and etched with traditional instruments, so bonus history lesson too. It makes me happy to exchange $$ to see such skilled artisans at work. Not a tourist shop but a real artisan workshop

Endless thanks to Ernesto, his family and team in fabricating these pair of beautiful pounamu, and going the extra mile in view of the tight timeframe. It was truly an amazing end-to-end experience in this custom-made journey. Ernesto provided regular updates and expert advice along the way to shape the stone to perfection. It was wonderful of Ernesto to patiently go through the rich history of pounamus and feel his deep understanding and respect for the greenstones. The craftsmanship of Ernesto's pounamus have a nautral raw beauty to them which tell a story on their own. For anyone visiting Auckland who is intending to gift pounamu to loved ones, it is highly recommended to visit Oroneegro and go through a similar incredible journey! :) - Wong Jun Yan, May 2023

Lovely place to go. Truly a wonderful place. My wife and I recommend you buy from them instead of going to the tourist Asian owned ones. Prices were a little higher than we were looking at but we were more than happy to be giving our money to such an amazing family and such beautiful workmanship. I would recommend all to visit their shop and gaze upon the wonder that is held within. To the owner... Ernesto, If you are reading this it's with love from Max and Michael. Wish I could have given you more than the little Johnny Reb sticker.

Thank you to Sebastian for help in picking out a piece for mum today. As others have commented the quality and skill of the workmanship is amazing. It was important for me to be supporting local businesses and skilled professionals vs likely mass-produced souvenir shop produced pieces. The personal touch and attention to detail was wonderful. Mum loves her pounamu and will be wearing it all the way back to the UK and for years to come. Thank you!
