Bit of a walk to get to the dam and not a whole lot of shade on the way down, but the views are pretty cool and there is more hiking available if you continue on the path.
Another lovely place to do a stroll on the Waitakeres. Good family fun for about 1.25hrs return. The stroll back up though is on a gradual incline. Be patient especially with the kids. They may complain lol. Bring lots of water and energy boosters.
Nice walk on the way down to the dam, it’s road so those in wheelchairs etc can also enjoy it. Tiring on the way back as it’s a constant incline. Dogs are allowed as long as they are on leash which is nice. The bush track walks were closed due to Kauri dieback unfortunately :(
Be VERY CAREFUL parking your rental here, we did so and returned from what was a lovely view to our car broken into and all our belongings gone. Thieves know rentals because they don't have alarm systems, ours was not the only one to be targeted, another couple with a rental were hit too.
It's a nice walk with a beautiful lake. It's a shame that the main bush walk is closed due to kauri dieback at the moment.
Did some of the Pinnacles track today however where ever it has access to Kauri trees the tracks are closed and fenced off due to Kauri Die Back disease. Dogs are permitted however on lease and all excrement removed due to possible water contamination.
A very simple and brief car parking place right on scene drive, if you're going to the Dam, this is the place you'll be parking. Probably can contain 7~ 10 regular size cars, depending in how people's parking their cars. Next to the parking space there is an iron gate, blocking cars from entering the private road, unless you're being authorized or construction cars. Make sure you watch out for the incoming and outgoing traffic when exiting, as it is just a small road and cars are driving rather fast.
Great walk. Very steep on the way back up. Large selections of other tracks to walk. Would reccomend tramline track for view of waterfall and train tunnel you can walk through.
