We found a sparrow on the road that had been clipped by a car. We called Wellington Bird Rehabilitation Trust and Craig said to bring it in. Craig and the team got the bird the medical treatment it needs. We were particularly moved by the fact that they take all birds in (no matter how common). Craig said “Every bird deserves a chance at life. It shouldn’t matter what breed it is. We’ll help any bird we can”.

Thank you for being there to support the community!! When someone finds an injured bird, it is immensely relieving to have an expert on speed dial (and then the place to take them to for help). Hoping for positive outcomes for baby duck!

I have known Craig for about two and a half years and have taken in total, around 34 injured birds to him for treatment. He is absolutely marvellous - so kind, caring and dedicated. I also volunteer at WBRT on a regular basis and am glad to be able to help out. We are lucky to have a place to take injured birds in their time of need. Thank you Craig, for establishing WBRTand for all your hard work. Irene Harvey

I found a gorgeous coast gull that had been badly injured by a car so managed to get her to the bird rehab centre and Craig was just amazing. He took us and Penny (the gull) inside and treated her straight away. He was so professional and gentle with her, he knew what was wrong straight away and how he could help. We got to look around the hospital, say hi to the birds and learn all about the place and the story of how he decided to open it. Just incredible! I’m so thankful Craig was able to help Penny. What an incredible guy. Thank you Craig!

This place is so special. The owner of the hospital is a very kind & generous man, who often puts the birds in his care ahead of his own welfare. This man is Craig, he is an excellent businessman & that is how we initially met. Craig built a hospital for birds after he was gifted some ducks. That was several years ago. The complex, is self funded by Craig, donations from kind people & subsidised by a plant nursery Craig developed to help fund the costs needed to run a hospital. I have volunteered on & off, over the years in a variety of roles & each & every job gives me a great sense of personal satisfaction. The staff are amazing & other volunteers are also outstanding. This hospital is a very busy place, especially in spring, summer & autumn. From the smallest baby bird to large birds are all given the best possible chance to heal & thrive. This is a place that can always use another set of hands or a donation of a variety of items & cash. If you have a passion for birds or have no experience with birds, there is always a place for people with a heart. Craig's heart is massive & he is so appreciative of any / all help offered to help this place of peace & hope.

Well maintained and excellent birdlife but could do with trimming of bush obscuring views especially at hides

Clive is awesome. His knowledge, kindness and compassion really shone through. If you have an injured bird, there really is no better guy to contact. I'm in awe of him.

Just discovered this amazing charity existed when we found a baby blackbird that required professional care. Wish we lived closer as I would love to volunteer and help in person. Have set up a monthly donation. So impressed by dedication of the team here

They’re doing incredibly important work that no one else in the Wellington region is doing—rescue and care for any injured bird, not just natives. Ducks, pigeons, blackbirds, everything. But they of course work alongside the zoo and others to ensure proper care for our native taonga! They’re primarily funded by donations and staffed with volunteer mahi so support them if you can! And if you find an injured bird give them a ring.
