This is a hard review to write/rate accurately due to us having dined there whilst using a $50 Xmas Promo Voucher to begin with & with 1 of the 2 meals being pretty much perfect vs the 2nd meal being very abysmal & fairly well inedible for the most part, but I'll start with the positives. We were promptly greeted by Ashlee S & accommodated as walk in guests before going to the bar for a drink whilst waiting to be seated, which didn't take too long at all. Once seated, we were approached by our server to take our order within a good timeframe & the meals themselves didn't seem to take too long to be prepared & served, all positives. From that point it gets better for my partner, who ordered the Prawn Star (Main) which was basically a perfect dish all round, but gets decidedly worse for me, having ordered a dish that I've had there on several occasions previously throughout the years, being the Lasso of Hog. This dish in the past has been really good & a decent portioning, well cooked & thoroughly enjoyable, hence my ordering it again, however on this occasion it was FAR from being a decent dish. The slaw & spuds were both great, but the star of the dish was tiny (I don't think even close to the 400g portion as per the menu wording, though the server I queried this with, assured me that they weigh the portions, almost defensively & as if rehearsed, like maybe this wasn't the first time a diner has made this query to her), majorly overcooked & the (stuffing?) & gravy were outright inedible, for want of better words. We had planned (prior to the mains) to order a dessert each, but after my main we decided we weren't gambling good money on the desserts being as good in reality as they sounded on the menu, so we paid the bill & left. Positives aplenty & if this review was based solely on the Prawn Star dish & the rest of the dining experience, this would be a 5 star review with strong recommendations of trying, but with the Lasso of Hog being basically a 1 star dish (except for the 4 star sides), I'm not so sure...

I attended a Christmas do at Lone Star Petone and it was absolutely fantastic. The food was spot on — the ribs were fall-off-the-bone delicious, the steaks were cooked perfectly, and the chocolate pudding was the perfect way to finish the night (highly recommend!). The staff were great throughout the whole evening — friendly, attentive, and made everything run smoothly, which really made the night extra enjoyable. Such a great spot for a group function or special occasion. Would definitely come back!

Dinner at Lone Star was a real win. The premium steak and the burger were both really good, cooked well and full of flavour. The only small miss was the sauce on the ribs, which was a little sweet for my taste and a bit too much. Other than that, everything felt pretty faultless. Service was pleasant and impressively prompt, especially given how busy the night was. Would happily come back.

Nice friendly service. It would be good to know the restaurant hours are different from the bar hours. The recipe has not changed much in the years this restaurant has been in operation. Well done!

Food was good, good potion and it was a birthday dinner we have even been offered a free dessert for the birthday star. Service was as good as to be expected. Our desserts has been delayed due to lack of staffs and we were nearly left without the desserts.

Not the best experience. Putting aside the kiddie noise and too-loud music to compensate, the food was not great. The garlic bread was large enough to feed half of Africa, but had just the slightest smear of garlic butter, as can be seen in the photo below. Enjoy that top 1mm, because after that all you're left with is dry bread and crust. The Dixie Chicken came with two halves of what must be the smallest chicken breast possible, with a sauce that had little flavour, compared to the last Dixie Chicken I had 20+ years ago in Wgton. No idea about dessert's because I wasn't hanging around to find out. This place is obviously popular if you need somewhere to take the kids for a 'restaurant' treat, or a 21st family gathering, but not for a date night.
