DO NOT STAY HERE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE!! I have been here for less than two weeks and I've had nothing but problems. Three days after I moved in, the scanner on the door started to run out of battery and kept locking me out. I contacted the managers for help and didn't receive a response. IF they respond to your query, they will outright lie. I had to contact them again the next day, and was told TWICE that someone was on the way to fix it and no one showed up! Called on the third day of having problems, finally someone came to help and replace the batteries. The batteries weren't from a new pack, they were from a random box. Less than a week later, the batteries have start to run out again. I asked about leaving my lease early due to the unreliable nature of the managers. They told me to send an email, which I did. A week has passed and they have not responded. They dont clean the rooms after a tenant leaves. I put some clothes on the shelf, when I picked them back up I noticed they were stained with yellow dust from the shelves. Only one of the lights work, there was already mold on the window sill when I moved in. The kitchen is revolting. All of the fridges reek of rotting food and it's clear they don't get cleaned out. It's difficult to find clean dishes, if you can find dishes at all. The drying machine on my floor has been broken for a week. There are broken toilet seats that are constantly covered in piss. There is one hand dryer in the bathroom, right next to one of the sinks, so if someone is standing there, you can't use it. Every part of the building has a weird smell. The common area always has either someone blaring the TV at full volume, or people drinking. Birds will there also get into the common area. There is a reception desk but I have never seen anyone there. I'll give it a four star for location as it's a five min walk from cuba street, but it has not at all been worth it. UPDATE The second floor dryer has been broken since I posted this review, and the elevator has been broken for a week. there's someone on the third floor with a walking stick which makes it especially egregious that it hasn't been fixed. STAY AWAY FROM HERE

Truly the worst place in wellington, is to much expensive for the place that it is , is falling a part, the owners don’t care about the place, is all dirty , the toilets are disgusting , the kitchen , anywhere you go . The clean guy doesn’t clean at all , and at least 80% of the people who live there as dirty and disgusting , they leave everything dirty , they don’t wash their dishes , and the fake your food , your things from the fridge and the owners They don’t even look to try to find who steal your stuff . Im telling you , avoid this place , is just horrible !

Absolutely terrible. Don’t bother staying here at all, it was bearable a few years ago when I last stayed due to good people. Now it’s more rundown than ever and a lot of questionable characters. Some of the staff are generally rude and unhelpful, old guy with the beard especially. Generally run down. Dirty, smells, beds are in comfy. Just don’t bother - 0 stars isn’t an option

Stayed in triple room with my kids. Room was relatively clean but it was only on the surface. Carpet was damp and slightly sticky, window sill was filthy. There were only 2 toilets and 2 showers per floor of 30 rooms! They were communal. My biggest issue was cleanliness of showers. There was garbage in the stalls and they felt dirty. Kitchen was reasonably clean but again only on the surface. We watched the communal areas be vacuumed but nothing was wiped down. Food that was dropped on the tables in the morning was still there in the evening.

Short stay however we didn't know that the kitchen and lounge area will only open from 7AM and we have to use it before that due to early morning flight. Would be nice to know beforehand for me to plan ahead. It is pretty close to the city and short walk is good. Security is good but would be nice if the corridors are well lighted and not smelly. Thats all!

It's not clean, but honestly, it's cheap, the people staying there are nice - and it's not as bad as many of the other views suggest. In some ways I like it more than Nomads, in other ways it's slightly worse. The smell is a little disconcerting in the hallways and the floor is wet in places for no reasons, the elevator is out of order, many toilets are out of order - but still it's got a rustic charm. If a new owner could give it a bit of a spruse up it could be really nice, but that would take some money I guess. So for a cheap stay, If you can get in a 4 bed dorm for around 10 euros on booking.com - it's worth it. There's a chance your dorm won't be full and then you'll get a fairly restful sleep.

Firstly: Parking is a nightmare. Don't drive in with van unless good skills to reverse out of small spaces. Hostel not as bad as we expected based on previous reviews. Paid $106 for small twin room. Room is old but was just clean enough. Staff at the reception was nice and kitchen okay. Have seen worse hostels. Bathrooms definitely need renovations. Shower pressure and temperature is decent but ventilation is terrible. I am not bothered by unisex bathrooms but I understand if someone finds it uncomfortable. Location of the hostel is very convenient, which deserves 5/5. Overall the hostel has potential to improve. For 2 nights ok though.
