For a big town and for the price it's a really good hostel. Cheap but everything is really clean. I met good people. There is a lot of people staying here long term so i liked it. Kitchen also clean and very well equipped ! Hostel is pretty quiet. Maybe on things, bunk bed are really moving a lot.

I stayed at Newton Lodge for 10 days and had an excellent experience. The bathrooms were spotless, with hot water available 24/7, so you could hop in for a shower anytime. The kitchen was very well-maintained by fellow mates and equipped with everything you need oven, kettle, baking trays, chopsticks, plenty of plates and utensils, four large fridges, and shelves for groceries. It’s easy for about five people to cook at the same time. During peak times, you may have to wait 20–30 minutes, which is totally reasonable given the price and nature of the place. Just observe the kitchen flow and schedule your cooking accordingly, and don’t forget to clean up after yourself so everyone can enjoy the same great experience. I saw some negative reviews online, but I personally didn’t experience any issues during my stay. The hostel feels safe, and nobody touches each other’s food. My original booking was for 5 days, but the receptionist kindly extended my stay upon availability, which I really appreciated. They also offer affordable long-term options, perfect for work visa or working holiday visitors planning to stay over 30 days. The common areas are bright and welcoming, with extras like reusable bags, free tea bags, laundry powder, books, and games. They even provide a free SIM card, which can be topped up easily in-store. If you’re social, it’s easy to hang out with other guests, and the CBD is just a 10-minute walk away. Overall, Newton Lodge offers a clean, safe, and friendly environment at a great price. Highly recommended!

Stayed here for 2 months whilst looking for a flat/work on a working holiday and it’s a great hostel for short or long term stay. Very clean, good value and has a very homely, friendly atmosphere

I don’t normally leave reviews but the way the lights work in the rooms is this place is the dumbest thing i’ve ever come across. the lights appear to come on automatically in the morning and you are entirely unable to switch them off (flipping the switch just makes the lights brighter). the hostel have signs saying quiet times are between 10pm and 9am because guests may be resting. yet at 8am i have a bright light shining in my face that i cannot turn off whilst im still trying to sleep!

The room was ok, bit small. The kitchen was really small and the hostel was busy so was hard to try cook. Felt a bit prison like to be honest, and the area really wasn’t that nice! Other than that, staff friendly and the room was clean enough was ok short term!

I liked it here. The shared area is great for meeting the other people thanks to the kitchen and the living room. I stayed in a mixed room without windows. There's a small locker where you can put your valuables (there's a key and you can put a lock too). There are several shower rooms and also toilets. There's a laundry room, 3$ for washing, 3$ drying. The location is good too. Near some Asian restaurants and also bars.

The hostel is OK but nothing more. Pro's - it's clean, not to expensive, location is quite central. Con's - it's not charming, the rooms have no windows and there is very little space
