In terms of affordable accommodation in Auckland, this place is the best I've encountered. Karangahake Road is an amazing location for a hostel to be located - great shops and it's an actual community. The hostel itself is cleanly and well-stocked - for instance, they will give you a towel nor is the bedding made of seatbelt material. The guy who runs the place is a legend, and I admire his positive outlook - he gets excited about things. I'm currently in Auckland and I'm staying at Surf-n-Snow backpackers - the difference is night and day. Everything is noticably filthy and the vibe isn't particularly pleasant. Location is not as good for anyone artistically minded or who would profess themselves to be cool. Pay slightly more and stay here! Awesome place.

Rooms and bathrooms were clean and were cleaned regularly, kitchen was usable but in the evenings often very untidy. Rooms have no windows and the fan that pushes air in is not very effective. Could still sleep in the rooms though, the air just got a bit thick in the night. Communal areas and the porch were nice. The rooms have lockers, but you need to rent a padlock or bring your own. On Friday and Saturday night it can get loud as there is a club just above this place, I personally was still able to sleep but you can definitely hear the music and might have a hard time if you're a light sleeper. I'm happy with the place and location, you get what you would expect for the price. If you want to stay in a nice hostel, pay more and go somewhere else.

This was my worst ever hostel experience. Staff could not have been less interested in my needs: I booked 7 nights in a private double room with ensuite bathroom. When showing me to my room, the receptionist took away the 2nd towel on my bed and when I asked if I could keep it he said βno you have to pay for itβ. I was also only given ONE towel for the entire week because 3 days later, after asking if I could get a clean one he told me no, if I want a clean towel I can wash it myself. On 4 of my 7 nights there my shower didnβt have any hot water, the excuse was βtoo many people have showered in a short timeβ but this happened on 4 days in a row and always at different times of the day. I also found out that the hostel was actually pretty empty because one day the fire alarm went off at 9am and when we were rushed outside there werenβt that many people standing there with me. The rooms have no windows cause the hostel is located in the basement and every night there was loud music & noise from outside, especially during weekends.

I will try to leave the most honest opinion possible for future travelers. after having stayed in many hostels in Auckland Hit Hostel is definitely the hostel where I felt the best.. There are inevitably things that can be unpleasant like the fact of not having windows in the rooms, but the spaces common areas completely fill this gap because they make us feel like we are in a large shared accommodation/ Flat where it is easy to meet people because it is a small hostel. the staff and the types of travelers who stay there are great. The staff do their utmost to keep the place clean even if unfortunately the cleanliness of a hostel also depends on the cleanliness of the travelers staying there at a given time and these are factors that we cannot control.. In any case price/quality ratio Hit hostel is the best you can find.

The location was convenient and the staff were friendly. But everything else was bad. I've been staying in hostels all around NZ for the past 10 months and this is the worst hostel I've ever stayed in. The dorm room had no window and smelled horrible. They didn't provide duvets, only a thin blanket that was dirty and covered with hair. Almost everyone in my room was sleeping in sleeping bags. It gets pretty chilly at night! The kitchen was always filthy with dirty dishes piled around. The entire hostel smelled like cigarette smoke because the smoking area led right into the hostel. For $45/night, it was a rip off. I also think the place is a fire safety hazard. Would suggest to pay a bit more to get decent accommodation elsewhere.

I am so happy with the whole staff here in HITHostel, specially with the help of Rian and Matias. Those two guys have a good deal with me. This is a extraordinary place to stay here.

Great place to stay for a backpacker! I stayed here for more than a week. It's located in K'Road and is close to many restaurants and groceries. The hostel is clean and safe. The manager Dev is a nice person. Employees are too! I recommend the hostel and I would stay again.

7 days experience here as a solo traveler is totally way beyond my expectation. This place strategic enough and u can basically get to everywhere just with your both legs. Awesome place with clean facilities, staffs are super friendly. If you can't stand noises, get an earbuds. Totally worth the value and I will be back for longer stay.
