Recently celebrated at my son's 50th birthday celebration. Very accommodating, staff were friendly & efficent. Shout out to Meredith, such a lovely, friendly young lady. The food was amazing (can I have the couscous salad recipe?) great size & privacy for a private function. Would and have recommended this for a perfect venue. Thank you!
I attended a Christmas do at Speights Ale House Petone, held in the upstairs function room, and it was a great experience. The space itself was lovely — roomy, comfortable, and perfect for a group function. The Christmas dinner buffet was really enjoyable with plenty of choice, and having our own bar and dedicated server made the night feel extra special and very well organised. Everything ran smoothly, which meant we could just relax and enjoy ourselves. Overall, a fantastic venue for a Christmas function. I really enjoyed it and would happily attend an event there again.
Had a great family event at Speight's Ale House Petone. Thank you Rory, Karen, bar staff and kitchen for making our evening run so smooth with great service and food was delicious - the Lamb Shanks were a hit! Great customer service our family felt so welcomed and special. We got to enjoy a fun evening just catching up while flow of meals, addtional requests and drinks were served in perfect timing and accommodating our kids meals was wonderful. Thanks again Justin and Speight's team for accommodating our group and organising a set menu. We had a great time, will be back again.
Upon my arrival, the staff extended a warm welcome. The ambiance was quite pleasant, and it seemed very family-friendly. The menu presented delightful options, and I particularly savored the brisket, which was delicious. Furthermore, they offer daily specials. I would certainly recommend this establishment.
My wife and I both ordered the same steak cooked medium-well, but unfortunately, the experience was disappointing. The steaks came out very tough with a noticeably bitter taste, likely from being over-charred. When we raised our concern with the staff, we were told it was “normal” because the steaks were cooked on charcoal. However, no effort was made to offer a replacement or provide a proper solution. Having worked in a steak restaurant myself, I understand that mistakes can happen in the kitchen, but how staff handle customer concerns is just as important as the food. In this case, the staff were not very approachable, and the manager did not handle the situation well. I hope the management can take this feedback positively and work on improving both food consistency and customer service, as the restaurant has potential to provide a much better dining experience.
Wellington on a plate burger from speights ale house is bloody good. Also came on Wednesday steak night. Hard to choose. I got the burger an my partner got the steak. I had to steal some from her as it was awesome aswell. Great place
Loved everything about our visit - food was delicious, waitresses were amazing, efficient and polite - the epitome of great service. Thank you so much, definitely a place to visit. I had ribs - you can take the bone out and just enjoy - succulent and juicy. The rest of the table had also enjoyed sirloin steak and chicken parcel. Overall we all had a great night.
Nice atmosphere but the food was lacklustre. Apple pie was burnt and steak was tough even though it was ordered and cooked rare
Party of 6, lovely place with very good service. It was busy (The Vic across the road was closed for dinner that night..) and our lights flickered when our time was almost up, reminded me when I used to venture the Pool Room in town., which was kinda funny. Wasn't Wasn't problem though as 1.5hrs was ample time to done and gas bag. Everyone was happy with their burgers and I just loved the Beef cheek pie. Its huge so portion wise it's fantastic! Because of this you may need to ask for more gravy. It was the perfect meal for a cold wet wintery day.
