   Delicious food here at Wei Chinese! My absolute #1 takeaway, with blow-you-away beef hofun, combination egg foo yung, and very nice hainanese chicken rice. Their spicy bag, with their egg fried rice, is honestly something special and is just like what you’d expect (but better). I recently dined in and we got some different meals. Stuffed eggplant with pork was actually really surprisingly good. It is fried, but it’s actually not too heavy, and my partner who can’t do fried food very well actually enjoyed it! Their spicy wontons were so good to start, and their beef stir fry was incredible! Their crispy chicken was okay, just tasted like roast chicken they fried. The service here is very authentic, you have to call them over to seat you, and you may need to wipe your glasses out. We brought wine as it is BYO. Overall, I highly recommend Wei for a local quality Chinese cuisine in Thorndon!

   Ordered the mapo tofu but it was the Cantonese take on it - firm tofu with vegetables and generic thick spicy sauce (no black bean or Szechuan pepper). It was fine, just not what the picture on the menu showed

   Generous portion of food. Delicious food and good service. Definitely be back again. Owners were HK BBQ ex owners. They are famous for their crispy pork and roast duck. I've been eating their food for many years. I no longer need to go all the way to Cambridge Terrace to feast in their dishes. Thorndon is lucky to have them.
