The best ramen I've found in Wellington so far - hearty flavourful broth, perfectly soft-boiled egg, thin juicy pork ... Well worth the exploration up the mysterious stairs for the authentic vibes and chill J-Rock playlist. Definitely gonna start taking friends and family here!

Itβs been a while since I last came to this restaurant. It felt like the yakitori was even more delicious than the last time I came !!!!!! Last time, the yakitori chicken was a bit overcooked, but this time it was grilled to perfection! A Japanese friend of mine who lives in Wellington told me that the taste can vary depending on who is grilling, and this time it was perfect. Both the tsukune balls and the other meats were absolutely delicious. I donβt have any photos but the gyoza is always really tasty here. I tried the ramen for the first time, and it was also good. All the staff were friendly. Nice vibes! Highly recommend :))

I've known the place since the original Kazu opened in December 2002. Of course, I am aware that the original shop no longer exists and that the owner has changed. Having worked as a chef myself for over 30 years around the world, this experience was deeply disappointing. Chicken Heart was not a problem. But the pork belly and gizzards were extremely tough. I assume they're pre-cooked as part of the preparation, but I couldn't finish them. As for the chicken skin, after one bite, it was nothing but burnt bitterness. I couldn't swallow a single mouthful and ended up spitting it out. When I reported this to the person who cooked it at the time of payment, he gave me a smug look and said, "It was burnt?" I wasn't angry; I only said it because I didn't want him to make the same mistake again. It was just very disappointing. As a chef, I recommend tasting what you have made yourself. It's truly regrettable that my dining experience at Kazu, spanning over 20 years, ends with this visit. There were other things I noticed, but that is quite enough. I won't be returning. Goodbye...

Wow, Iβm really impressed with their lunch specials! Only $12, and the menu changes daily during the week. This place is usually packed at night, but itβs nice and quiet at lunchtimeβyet still one of the best deals in town! I loved todayβs menu: Katsu curry rice. Absolutely delicious and a generous portion. Definitely recommend!

This restaurant is a must-try! The food is absolutely fantastic, and the staff are incredibly welcoming and attentive. It's a popular spot, so we'd recommend booking in advance to avoid disappointment. We loved every dish and the warm atmosphere. A truly outstanding experience!

Very good food. Lots of choices and real japanese theme feels. Good place for yakitori and some beers. Would 100% recommend

It used to be a lot better and I would come in weekly for the teriyaki tofu don. This option has been removed from the menu for some reason? Vegetarian options are now quite limited and I ordered the teriyaki tofu hotpot instead. It was literally white rice and barely cooked tofu with a little teriyaki sauce drizzled over. It was served in a pot but was definitely not a "hot pot" as the rice was room temperature. My partner got the katsu curry rice and said the katsu chicken was good but you can get better curry from a packet. The whole experience felt low effort. After being a regular customer for years in the past I will no longer be coming back.

Sashimi was very stale and my friend and I had the stomachache after eating it. The beef skewers are very salty and really not recommended. And the waitress urged us to leave during the meal. We were very unhappy with this dinner.

The food was amazing. We kept ordering one after the other. Authentic Japanese vibes. Must visit with a group of friends.

The food tastes good, but the quality of food is not worth the price at all. The quality of sushi is normal, which is the same as that of "boxed sushi". The noodles of ramen are very sticky and inelastic. The quality and taste of kebabs are better than sushi. The space of eating area is very narrow and loudly, as a big person when I was eating I had to curl up myself to prevent my elbow to touch otherβs. Next time I will only come here to drink some alcohol with some kebabs. Sushi is not recommended. Before you come here I strongly recommend you are already full otherwise you will cost a lot here. The "Japanese style" of this shop is more attractive than the foods.
