Last week my friends and I had the hightea experience. Oh wow, great service by the lovely young team. The food was exquisite. There were 8 of us and we all had a fabulous time. Even down to staff taking our group photo as we left. Definitely a great time had by us all and we will return soon. Thank you so much
I occasionally attended dinners at the Mangapapa restaurant with various groups on a number of times over several months. Mobility issues meant I stayed in town, so unable to comment on the rooms. Nice historic homestead, sympathetically restored and added to. Real live fireplace in bar area, very welcoming in winter, big double bass by wall seemingly waiting to be played. Good food in keeping with period surroundings. Overall ambience was of laid-back elegance, helped by evident informal, relaxed interactions by front of house staff with both their manager and patrons. More recently, noticed virtually all familiar people on wait staff were no longer there; different new faces on each visit. Front of house were professional as always but no more relaxed informality. Now it was eyes down, speak when spoken to when management was there; this especially was noticeable with the younger female staff members (too many years ago, my younger self did casual restaurant work with bosses good and bad, so I still notice these things). As a place to visit for dinner - beautiful. As a place to work - not so sure.
Perfect venue for 2 nights during our 4 weeks trip. The restaurant is outstanding: 5 course with pairing wines were above expectations! Thomas gave very good explanation of the wines!
Sharing a quiet Father's Day High Tea with my significant other could not have been more special. This is not our first experience here, and it won't be our last. Everything is exceptional! The staff are the most professional team, who are at your service covering every detail with quiet expertise rarely seen in other eating establishments. And then there is the food!!.... Thankyou so much for our very memorable time spent with you all.
We visited this place to celebrate our mum’s 70th birthday with her friends, and it was such a special experience. The food was beautifully presented and delicious – everyone really enjoyed the selection. The service was also excellent; the staff were attentive and kind throughout. A special thank you to the manager, who personally greeted us and made sure everything went smoothly. It was such a lovely touch that made the day feel even more memorable. Highly recommend for a special occasion or just a relaxing afternoon tea!
Wow. Wish I didn't have to do this but this is based on our latest experience here. The previous times has been superb however looks like massive change in direction and staff. Last times we visited everything worked like clockwork and the experience was enjoyable. This time however it felt budget from the start. Had to get out of the car at gate as it was half closed. The intercoms didn't work so had to phone them to open gate. Was taken straight to table instead of the lounge in front of the fireplace as they have placed two dining tables in front of it and lounge furniture around it. Real weird as then when we finished we wanted to sit in lounge and people were dining in front of us and was a bit awkward all round. Couldn't order beverages without pointing at the words due to language barrier. No conversation from wait staff just checking to clear, no amuse bouche as per every other visit. No checking if meals were cooked or we were satisfied. It is such a shame as we have spent many an anniversary, mother's day high teas and booked friends in here for special occasions as 500m from our house. Won't be back in a hurry sad to say.
Absolutely amazing! We were a large party of 28 celebrating a 90th. We had a variety of dietary requirements and they were able to accommodate everyone's preferences. A truly beautiful setting, attention to detail was outstanding and service was equally as good. Highly recommended.
High tea, excellent reception, beautiful decor and environs, we were seated in a small area where there was another table occupied by 5 woman(wanna be ladies) who were exceedingly vocal, not a problem but l had to ask to be seated elsewhere, surely the maitre-d should have assessed the situation and rectified it by moving us without being asked apart from that blemish everything else was as we expected of a high class establishment, silver service was excellent, the tea first class and thoroughly enjoyed. Thank-you.
I can't speak more highly of the service at this Hotel. Happy, friendly, attentive front of house staff that truly helped to make our stay a memorable one. The food that came out of the kitchen was excellent also.
