Have been here about 3 times now and each time we were unfortunately not impressed. Service isnβt all there, me & my partner were waiting to be served for 10min, a simple βweβll be with you soonβ would have been nice. The food we received was poor quality & quantity for the price we paid. My partner ordered a burger & fries & literally only had 10 chips on her plate, with a sloppy burger.Honestly the Hastings Coffee Club I recommend. Plain, over priced & bad service Never Again.

The Coffee Club The Crossing, Napier β A Disappointing Experience Visited: During school holidays, lunchtime on a rainy day (approximately 1pm) Overall Rating: 1 out of 5 stars The Coffee Club is a well-known franchise across New Zealand and Australia, often praised for reliable all-day dining, good coffee, and a relaxed atmosphere. Unfortunately, our recent visit to the Napier location at The Crossing fell far short of the brand's usual standards, primarily due to evident understaffing and its ripple effects on service and food quality. There was essentially only one staff member handling orders at the counter while another focused solely on making coffees. This led to a noticeable backlog, even though the cafe wasn't overwhelmingly packedβlikely boosted by the poor weather driving people indoors during school holidays. We were quoted a 45-minute wait for food, which was accurate, so no complaints there on timing transparency. However, once seated, the table service was markedly poor. Our orders were delivered incorrectly not once, but twice, and the waitress appeared extremely overwhelmed and flustered, struggling to manage the floor effectively. Throughout our meal (which lasted around an hour), approximately half the tables remained uncleared, with dirty plates and cups piling up. There was no effort to reset tables with fresh cutlery, contributing to a general sense of neglect in the dining area. The vibe suggested a once-vibrant spot that has lost its spark, now feeling chaotic and under-resourced. The food itself mirrored the service issues: it lacked care and appeared rushed, as if plated hastily to keep up with demand in an understaffed environment. Portions were adequate for the price (our bill came to around $100 for a group of 3), but the presentation and flavor felt uninspiredβcomparable to fast-food quality rather than the elevated cafe experience one expects from The Coffee Club. It's particularly disappointing for a franchise of this caliber to be so understaffed at peak times like 1pm on a rainy school holiday day, when indoor dining options are in high demand. This seems to be contributing to the location's declining reputation, as evidenced by its modest Google rating (around 3.6/5 from recent reviews) and sparse feedback on platforms like Tripadvisor. In comparison to other Coffee Club outlets I've visited in New Zealand and Australia, this Napier branch is a hard pass. For the price, you'd expect better execution than something akin to a quick McDonald's meal (which, ironically, would arrive in under 10 minutes). It's a shame, as the chain generally delivers consistent "good food, great service, and excellent coffee"βnone of which were on display here. **Recommendation:** Skip this one unless you're in a pinch and have plenty of time. Napier has many superior independent cafes offering better service and quality for similar prices. Hopefully, management addresses the staffing issues soon to restore the brand's reputation in the area.

We really enjoyed our meals especially my chicken Caesar salad. The staff said their plates are really big but we thought it was standard size. Loved the atmosphere. A great place for large groups.

The Coffee Club is a pretty standard chain. The food is reliably good even if it isn't going to be your favorite. The place is spacious and comfortable. The staff have always been polite and friendly on my 3 visits to the Napier location.

The service was great, staff are friendly and efficient. The coffee was really good. The pancakes weren't what we were expecting, it was 1 big thick pancake more like a sponge cake. In general the food was okay but extremely overpriced.

Wee bit of a wait while the till staff member worked their way though 4 customers orders. Coffee & tea delivered as requested in takeaway cups to the table quick smart & was greatly appreciated. The floor waitress responded promptly to a request for a teaspoon to add sugar which was also greatly appreciated. Crossiants come to the table very well toasted (nearing burnt), & were very dry, which could of been remedied with a slather of relish or something similar. Minor teething problems with a new business are always expected: we'll try again in the future as we love & regularly utilise other coffee clubs throughout NZ.

The wait time was incredibly long. We had to wait for two hours! No exaggeration. The kitchen seemed disorganized and unprepared to handle the large number of customers. The quality of the food wasn't that fantastic. When my husband complained to the owner about the long wait, he was unapologetic and dismissive. He didn't seem to care about our experience at all. We feel for the young staff who still managed to smile despite many unhappy customers following up their orders. Overall, I would not recommend this place to anyone. The long wait and unapologetic management made for a terrible dining experience.
