On the plate at Hutong Dunedin, the idea is Thai-inspired and well executed. Sweets lean classic and not overly rich. Noodles arrive glossy and well seasoned. Service stays present without fuss. Curries are rounded, with sauces that coat without heaviness.
We stumbled across this place by chance and are so glad we did as it was fantastic! Lovely staff, really cute decor and fresh, tasty food. Can highly recommend and look forward to returning again soon.
Visiting from Wellington we had a craving for Thai and weren't sure where to go, Thai Cafe won out due to being the easiest to get to on a Friday night - Pitt street worked well for nearby parking if you don't mind a brief steep walk. Very pleasant and comfortable decor, music playing but not too loud - staff are very attentive and friendly. We ordered a Lemongrass Chicken and Chicken Penang Curry, which arrived in around twenty minutes on a busy Friday evening. They were both delicious, I'd call it the best Thai I've had in New Zealand and my only downer is that I can't have it until I'm next in Dunedin.
Beautiful place for a date night. Quiet and ambient. The entrees are fantastic, we got 4 instead of mains. The salt and pepper squid is insane, the squid just melts in your mouth!! Otherwise the pork belly is mint also. Super friendly staff too.
Good food and service. We were very happy with our Tomyum and Beef black pepper sizzling plate. Staff were attentive, warm and welcoming. Really nice ambiance, we were lucky enough to get the table by the window. Highly recommend and would come back for another meal. Thank you Thai Cafe
Ordered roti with peanut sauce for 12.90 and it was tiny ngl. Our table didn’t get checked on once and they didn’t bring any cutlery or napkins which made it awkward and messy. When we went to pay, the server didn’t ask how it was and we weren’t rlly greeted when approaching staff. For a place charging that much I think service and serving sizes could definitely improve. Nice atmosphere tho!
Very beautiful decorations, great service and great selection of South east Asian meals and beverages. Recommend Laab Crispy pork. Staff are so friendly. You have to try their dessert sorry forgot to take photos. To excited to eat them.

Fantastic food and very friendly staff. Food was full of flavour and more importantly authentic. Good ambience inside the restaurant. It is small but the food is great.
We had a recommendation to check this restaurant out so off we trotted. Upon arrival we had a look at the menu and it looked good, the place was clean, staff friendly and quite busy. Then the food....it was just stunning. Fresh, tasty and diverse. All we both had was top notch but the Shanghai dumplings with Panang Curry Sauce was out of this world. I would go back just for these beauties. All in all a great experience and we’re certain to return.
