   Haven’t been in for years. Moved to Havelock North ten years ago, tried it, liked it, but went up the road to Namaskar, decided we preferred them and didn’t go back. Moved away five years ago and tonight, here on business, I fancied a curry. Namaskar is closed on Tuesdays, so back to the Great Chilli I went. To benchmark this against every other Indian I tried my go-to dish, chicken saag hot, with a plain naan. Food was excellent. Understated by most Indian restaurant standards, where application of spice can be overkill like a Disney Princess. Got the heat wrong but that’s my fault for not specifying hot, hot, rather than hot. Naan was fine, and the little popadom placed at the table when I sat down was appreciated. Service friendly and fine - good presence. What let it down was air conditioning on max cool. Sit near the front and you should be ok, but I had a single table near the bar and was glad I bought a jacket. Food went cold under the withering blast of chilled air! Glad I went back; should have gone more often instead of giving all my Indian money to their competition. They’re good.

   This was our second time getting food from here and again amazing. First time we got Kadai and Jalfrezi curries and now their chicken and pakora starters. Both times they included a free papad which was a nice gesture. We love indian food and this restaurant is definitely one of our top picks in NZ.

   Great place for authentic Indian food! The curries are full of flavour and taste just like real home-style cooking. Everything is fresh, delicious, and made with care. Highly recommend this restaurant for anyone who loves genuine Indian cuisine

   We just wish we had known this place earlier. Had a takeaway tonight - one chicken and one prawn. Didn't order rice but a small box of rice was included. Plus a garlic naan. They were all super flavorsome and delicious! Better than many eat-ins we had in Indian restaurants in Hawke's Bay. The website says its owner used to be a chef in 5-star hotels in Asia. The food certainly lived up to this reputation. We will be their weekly customers from now on!

   Disappointing. Three of us shared a meal. The vegetable dish was just a mush. Our chicken and paneer dishes were swimming in sauce and well short of the key ingredients chicken and paneer. While the sauce was tasty the dinner was very short of protein and we wouldn't recommend this place. I regret not pointing this out the time.

   Staying at the Havelock North Motor Lodge and decided to have takeaway Indian for tea, from directly across the road from the motel. We shared butter chicken with cheese and garlic naan bread. We had mild heat, which was just right for us. We really enjoyed our meal. Would definitely recommend.
