So incredibly and unnecessarily hard to book or contact. I was trying to book a baby shower high tea and after an email and several unanswered phone calls I finally got a response nearly 3 weeks after initial contact. Upon arriving the booking request wasnβt unkept (to be seated in the private (ish) room) and it wasnβt until I asked again that we were moved. Staff on the day however were lovely, the high tea itself was unfortunately pretty dry (GF) and very heavy on the sweets. All 4 of us left feeling a bit sick from all the rich sugar.

I took my daughter out to the very lovely Penny Black Vintage Tearooms for her 30th birthday. We had a lovely time, atmosphere was perfect and the food and service was great. As I am DF and GF I very much enjoyed the very lovely food as we all did. I highly recommend and would love to go again with my friends!

I had a wonderful time. I enjoyed a hibiscus tea with the Bubble And Squeak for breakfast.

A Glorious High Tea Experience at Penny Black We had the pleasure of enjoying High Tea at Penny Black today for the first time and were not disappointed! The selection offered a lovely balance of savoury and sweet treats, each bite beautifully crafted and perfectly portioned. The food was just the right amountβsatisfying without being overwhelming. The coffee was excellent, and the service was warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. Two glasses of wine added a touch of indulgence, making our afternoon feel extra special (and at only $6 per glass were an absolute bargain!). Highly recommended for anyone looking to enjoy a refined and relaxing afternoon in Christchurch

Came in for a high tea for my Mum's birthday and was utterly delighted. Drinks were beautifully presented - love the glassware! - and the tea was hot and topped up no problem. Thought we'd demolish the tasty treats in record time but ended up not finishing everything as food was delicious and very filling. Loved the cheese tarts and the little lemon meringue pies especially but everything was perfect. Staff were an absolute delight and the setting is second to none. Wonderful way to treat Mum and will definitely be back for breakfast soon. Menu looks amazing and the Paris tea is sublime.

I really wanted to love this experience as I'd never been to high tea before, so this constructive feedback is not aimed at our servers as they were lovely. The group of us booked in on a busy Sunday for a birthday and I was impressed with how gorgeous the venue was just to clarify. I had not viewed the website or reviews prior, however when the food came out, I was a bit shocked as it was a 3 tier tray with only a few cakes and savouries which 3 of us shared. At $55 per person, I found this sorely disappointing. The staff seemed short staffed so I don't blame them at all, we got our first round of drinks quickly but then the Sunday rush came and it appeared our table had been forgotten so we had to eventually ask if we could get our 2nd drinks that were included in the menu. We were there for a total of 2 hours, which felt a bit stretched considering how little food there was. I do understand that you go for the experience but I wasn't expecting to leave really hungry. You do have the option of buying more food but when you're already spending $55, why would you? Perhaps this is feedback to be passed on? I do love the concept and again, the venue was great and staff were friendly :)

First of all the customer service was not great. The lady making the coffee just seemed a bit short/stressed. It was not busy but maybe it had been and that could explain. My friend and I were very excited to the Belgium hot chocolates .. especially considering how good Belgium chocolate is. We were not impressed it was very bald and extremely hot and watery. I feel like this place has so much potential.

Before we leave this city, we visited here again for the best cheese scone and custard in Christchurch. Their staff was super friendly. When we told her that we received a wrong order, she smiled and gave the new food. We will keep a fond memory.
