Karangahake Gorge is a stunning place to explore, with beautiful walking tracks, historic tunnels, and peaceful river views. The mix of nature and gold-mining history makes it a unique and memorable spot, perfect for an easy walk or a relaxed day out. If you want to secure the parking slot. Recommend to visit early as possible.

It was interesting to see some of the history of the mining and walk through the tunnels. If you have a bright torch I would recommend it as it's better than the light on your phone. The tunnels keep going quite far but when you get to the part where you go downhill again be warned you can't go back on the path opposite there's a gate blocking that path.

Very lovely and a different kind of hike. We did the short Windows Walk and you get to walk along the old railway track and through old mine tunnels with views of the gorge. Half the Windows Walk was closed due to rock falls so you basically walk to the bridge and turn back (takes about 1hr). This is a great stopover hike. Remember to bring a torch. Mobile phone light is just adequate.

Great place to hike or bike, depending on the time of day and in the week, parking may be limited or you will have to walk far... only two handicap spots... so may have a hard time parking if disabled.

Great two hour stop. We did the windows walk. This included approximately 100 man made steps. Dark and wet mining tunnels ( bring a light and waterproof shoes). Part of the lower track is closed, so to make it a loop take the Battery track back. We didn't and got to do the 100 steps all over again! Two suspension bridges to cross to get there. One has a lot of bounce! Easy parking with a toilet. Probably a 3 out of 10 on strenuous ( only because of the stairs). Not handicap friendly. Bad knees; beware.

A beautiful place with many hiking tracks that are easy to complete. I had a great time there with my family and friends. It's also a great place to take photos with different views to pick and choose. Just keep in mind that some of the tracks might be closed. When I went the tunnel was open but not the full track loop, so we had to go through the tunnel twice.

Great place to go for a walk or a cycle. Kids love the old train tunnel which is a must. Unfortunately some of the areas were closed from the floods so we couldn't get to the windows or the old mine shaft. Will have to go back again when they're open!

A really cool spot. Was somewhat sad that the windows and tunnel circuits were both closed due to debris blocking the tracks. Would love to see the tracks maintenance improved but overall a really neat spot. Crazy to think of how massive the gold mine and processing facilities would have been back in the day. The rail tunnel was really neat.

The family and I absolutely loved it here. The sound of the water, the nice walks along the trails, a pity the landslide prevented us from seeing all the caves, definitely worth the stop.

Awesome place. Well kept walks, although some downed trees and slips were on some of the paths after the storms. Scenery is outstanding, information on area is available on information boards, and my family had an awesome time. Couple of points though, parking is limited and highly sought after. Get there early. And one of the walks (windows walk) was closed at the end, but it didn't tell you this at the start of the walk, only once you got there.
