It was extremely nostalgic, reminded of the time when I used to study about Rutherford's model in the school (and I ended up doing a Master's in Physics). He is one of the most underrated scientists and I never knew he was from New Zealand. His contribution to the field is extraordinary. Glad that I visited this place. Really interactive and loved his journey. It is good to see where the legend used to work. Very inspiring. P.S. NZ should brag a little more that he was from NZ Thank you for creating such a nice place. Loved it.

Great if you're into science... But don't give up if not! Follow the stairs all the way up to the second floor to the old wooden tiered lecture hall- exquisite! And great photos out the windows

My family had an amazing experience at the Rutherford Den in the Christchurch Arts Centre! The staff were incredibly friendly, welcoming, and knowledgeable. The exhibits are thoughtfully curated, providing a fascinating and informative insight into the life and achievements of Ernest Rutherford. It’s a must-visit for anyone interested in science, history, or simply learning something new. All information boards even come with Chinese translation! Highly recommended!

Informative, historical and important for New Zealand science history. Very well maintained and a great place to bring your kids and families. Rutherford was a remarkable scientist and one amongst the best.

I've been here 5 times now. 4 times to look at everything and 1 time to photograph it. Lovely lady hosting the museum. Beautifully preserved architecture. Loved the squeaky steps in the lecture theater!

Excellent interactive exhibition. Good fun for 30-40 minutes or so to explore. Was nice as an engineer being able to explain some cool physics concepts to my less-sciency partner with the different exhibits. The model train that was given to Rutherford's grandson in his honour, with videos of the kid playing with the model, was a super cool and tangible piece of history to engage with!

What a find at the arts center. Head to Rutherfords den and see the history of one of our most famous scientists. This was part of his upbringing and helped him become who he was. Lots of educational information on the main floor. Head to another level and see the basement he spent time in and then head to the classroom with the original floors and graffiti in the desks. Amazing and free..

Really nice free museum in the city centre.Β  There is so much information and interactive displays in a small space, it's really worth visiting.
