I’ve been a loyal customer of Illy Café for many years, always considering it the best-tasting coffee in Christchurch. However, during my recent visit, I was disappointed with the experience. It took 20 minutes to receive my two coffees, and unfortunately, they were cold by the time they arrived. That said, I don’t believe this is the fault of the staff member on duty. She was working alone, juggling multiple tasks—serving customers, clearing tables, and making coffee—all while the café was quite busy. It seems like she was doing her best under challenging circumstances. It might be worth considering additional staff support during busy periods to maintain the high standard I’ve always associated with Illy Café. I’d love to see the service return to what I’ve come to expect and enjoy over the years.

Look around before ordering! Are the customers seated in possession of a drink? Ordered then sat down, realised of the 6 tables only one had drinks! The sole member of staff was doing three jobs, taking orders, making drinks and clearing tables! Took ages to get out coffee! Taste was good but as a European you expect that from Illy, one of Italy’s prestigious coffee brands. Muffins were tasty.

Incredibly bad customer service received this afternoon! Ordered a takeaway coffee for the movies and was surprised to see customers who had ordered after me get served first! When I questioned why they had got their coffee before me I was told they were sitting in!!!! What the hell I’m getting a takeaway for a reason and that is speed! Plus I’m pretty sure takeaway customers get charged more! $6.89 for a medium trim latte plus been treated like a second class customer is not okay!!!! I will not be returning!

Came in yesterday for a coffee just before closing. The lady made coffee with full cream as maybe that was what was available to her. We were not informed. Coffee tasted terrible. I used to really enjoy their coffee but their standard has significantly reduced. Will not be returning.
