**Update**Hostess have shut down the company Hostess 2001, there was a Hostess joinery in 2022 ( I’m not sure if it’s related) but that company has gone. They seem to have made a new company named Host kitchens. So anyone with a warranty pre 2022 this appears to be invalid, as they told me mine is. This is called a phoenix company as it “rises from the ashes of the dead company.” I think it is very dishonest to still be using the Hostess name. Beware of those that appear to use NZ company law to avoid responsibility. Please search the companies register. My kitchen was not siliconed in during installation. This is causing swelling of the wooden kitchen materials around my kick boards and where my cupboards sit on my bench tops. The melamine is coming off the front of my cupboards, my wooden runner used on my wicker storage baskets have broken. My kitchen was two weeks late being delivered to site and cost me in rent waiting to move onto my home. I approached Hostess, thinking things were ok because they have a warranty. I was informed they won’t cover water damage, but will happily sell me replacement parts for my kitchen. I explained my kitchen was not sealed in and sent photos. It’s took months for someone to get back to me. They finally agreed to come look at my kitchen. At first I was told it was the flooring people’s fault for not sealing my kitchen in. I explained the kitchen was late and went on-top of the flooring. Which is plank vinyl on a concrete slab. This is important because they tried to tell me they couldn’t silicone my hardwood flooring. It’s not wood. Also remember they blamed the flooring people for not siliconing, I have this from hostess in writing. Also around my bench top cupboards was swelling and siliconing the bench wasn’t up to the flooring people. They then told me they don’t use silicone because it degrades and it is also impossible to silicone a 90 degree corner. I explained I had recently learnt how to silicone and I could do a corner. They then told me I should have silicones in my kitchen and I explained I didn’t want to trap moisture and I had paid for a professional installation by hostess not a kit set kitchen for me to install. The gentleman who came to my home continued to run me around in circles trying to blame me for washing my floor, wiping benches and not siliconing my own kitchen. He told me they don’t seal the kickboards or paint them so it’s just bare plywood on the cut edges, next to the floor you mop. Remember they apparently don’t silicone because it degrades so eventually a few years down the track you will also be having swelling from the moisture. I had to Hostess’s representative to “Please respectfully leave my home” twice before he would exit my house. I had no one there with me and as a single woman I felt like I was being bullied into taking responsibility for the sub par installation. It was quite scary having to ask someone twice to leave my home. I asked for his findings to be provided in writing as I struggle to believe as a client I should have to caulk in my kitchen. It has been 3 weeks and I have not had any communication from hostess. They have not addressed my melamine coming off the edges of the designs on my cabinets at all, it has just been ignored. I have informed them I will be speaking to my lawyer. Please have the warranty read by a legal professional before signing any contracts with this company.
