This was our second stay at The Riccarton Hotel. The first time, we stayed in the newer building, and the room was in great condition—clean, modern, and overall a pleasant experience. That’s what made us come back. Unfortunately, this time was quite different. We were given a room in the building opposite the reception. The room was not clean, and the bathroom had visible mould, which was very disappointing. The room also had a strong smell, almost like someone’s sweat, making it clear it hadn’t been properly cleaned or aired out before our arrival. For the price, the hotel is okay, but the inconsistency in room quality is a concern. If you’re booking here, I’d recommend requesting a room in the newer part of the hotel.

December 2024 stayed for 1 night. The room was lovely the bed very comfy ..bathroom exceptional to the little details of the mirror and heater handrails. For the low price I wasn't sure what to expect but would definately stay again. I asked for a toaster and nothing was too much trouble for the owners of this hotel. The only down side travelling with elderly couple was no lift but other then that I'd definitely be back.

Fabulous location close to Christchurch Hospital. Nice and quiet and friendly staff. Didn't get in til 8pm and my room was ready for me, heater and lights on. Discussed leaving my vehicle there and walking to the hospital and had an offer to drive me if the weather wasn't nice! Fantastic room clean and tidy! Would recommend and stay here again!

The room was ok... except the bathroom shower...there was mold and the glasses were not clean... So makes you wonder what else do not clean enough... They let us check in early so they were really nice, the location is amazing. So it was a shame because the rest was explendid.

Nice quiet room, friendly staff and ants. We checked in last minute and the receptionist was excellent. Much better than our previous accommodation

The room I was given was in desperate need of attention, Dated and dirty! (Corner unit just across from reception) From grubby hand prints and dirty linen to a mouldy bathroom with peeling paintwork. At $179 a night midweek it's very overpriced for what's on offer in the area. The man behind the reception desk seemed hardly phased by the whole situation...Very disappointing wouldn't recommend.

Pros- Two of us stayed in the twin unit which was nice and clean. The beds were comfortable and the sheets were a really nice quality. Plenty of room in the twin room to move about. Has a microwave, mini fridge toaster and jug etc which was handy and a good sized bathroom with a powerful shower. Nice views and very quiet when we stayed. A little bit rough around the edges decor wise, but the price is right. Cons - It was a hot day and night in our unit and there wasn't an air conditioner. That would be difficult in the summertime. Also It is difficult to get anyone to answer the phone. There was road works blocking both ends of the road and I was from out of town so I wasn't sure how to get in past the double road closures and no-one had contacted me to let me know how to get in, nor would anyone answer the phone. When I did finally find my way in, the bottom of my car was scraped out due to the high mound of shingle the road works piled up in the hotel's only entry and exit gate. This is not the hotel's fault at all, but a warning and instructions on how to get in would have been helpful.
