   River access can be grotty unfortunately. I've stopped launching kayaks from there. It's a shame that such a precious river access and park area is not taken better care of. Usually a food truck is nearby, which is good.

   Sadly, not what it was. Those who used it, legal SC vehicles, plus those not, have lost the Freedom Camping area to dumped soil and rubbish. It's now an eyesore. Constant tagging. Used as a racetrack by those taking shortcuts onto the main road. Used and abused sadly.

   A pretty place to park and a good starting point to ride the bikes to Omokoroa. Pity the road is closed beyond and no sign of any repairs happening, but easy enough for walking or biking past the road blocks.

   Nice way to spend lunch. Beautiful winters day spent having lunch at the Wairoa River Reserve. A couple of other people must also like it. There were about 6-8 other cars all parked up enjoying the gorgeous winter's day down by the river. It's great that there's a fiid cart parked down there to satisfy the hungry tums too. There appeared to be a few vehicles using the through road, rather than making a right turn out onto the main highway. I guess it's a safer option, but a couple tended to zoom through the reserve, or at least when we were there. Inconsiderate if kids were around, playing... Otherwise a nice place to stop, rest and refuel.
