I took a dress in to be altered, they put darts in the front. Rough job, picked up half an hour ago, lots of untrimmed threads and already coming undone. Won't go back. Will wait until after Christmas and get redone elsewhere
ATTENTION BRIDES TO BE: I would strongly advise caution before using this service. Deborah was initially very pleasant to deal with and very accommodating, but this quickly changed when I respectfully raised concerns about my gown. My wedding dress alterations were extremely overpriced given the quality of work provided. The workmanship was not just poor.. it was concerning. When I got home and was able to look at the dress in bright natural lighting. I was absolutely guttered. Seams were unfinished, excess fabric was just sewn down, and fabric was stitched in ways that created visible bulk through the lace layer, making the overall finish appear messy and unprofessional. When I raised my concerns about the quality, the response shifted the blame onto me instead of addressing the actual issues. There was no formal quote or invoice.. only a handwritten amount on a business card.. and the work ultimately required me to take my dress to another professional to have it corrected. If you are trusting someone with your wedding gown, please inspect their work carefully and ensure you have a written agreement for both cost and expected standards. This experience was disappointing and stressful, and I hope other brides take this warning seriously.
Deborah was a Fairy Godmother to me for the wedding. I approached her 1 month out from the day, asking if she could help zhuzh up the simple dress I'd bought on Etsy. In such a short time frame, she managed to create a beautiful full length circle skirt with a mini-train that I could hop in and out of due to the zip. She added these goofy sleeves with some nifty attachments which again, could be taken on and off. She also created my veil. She listened to how I described the image in my head, and wasn't afraid to use her expertise to suggest ways to improve on the design. She is a true seamstress who understands fashion, proportions, colour and balancing out outfits. I will be forever grateful to Deborah, who must have worked crazy hours to pull off that creation. The dress has become something that people are still asking me questions about a month after the wedding. In addition to my wedding dress, Deborah and Denise have previously made me a classic dress that I've been wearing consistently for the last 3 years. It never gets old. Her patterns are timeless. Thank God for Seamstresses like Deborah and Denise!
I had an amazing experience at Feisty Needle. The seamstress was incredibly professional, offering suggestions that made me feel special and ensuring every detail was perfect. Even when I forgot my shoes at the shop where I got my dress, she made everything feel easy and stress-free, asking me to come back the next day without any hassle. This was my first time in Hamilton and only my second time in New Zealand — I’m getting married here, so I needed some alterations on my dress. I couldn’t have asked for a better place! Even though I don’t live in New Zealand permanently, this will be my go-to spot for any future tailoring needs. Highly recommend

The ladies at Feisty Needle were nothing short of incredible. I took three high quality suits to them for some moderate alterations. They were my uncle’s and have immense sentimental value so I wanted to make sure that they were treated as such. They treated me like family, gave me suggestions, genuinely seemed like they cared, communicated well, and last, but definitely not least, they executed the alterations to an impeccable standard. I’m beyond glad that I chose them to carry out these alterations and I will definitely be using them again in the future. Very reasonable pricing for the level of attention and skill as well!

Had the best experience. The most lovely ladies ever. I needed a dress to be sized down by a lot and they made it possible when I didn't think it was. They were so kind and suggested many ideas on how to alter the dress and made sure it was the way I wanted it. Would 100% recommend them and would definitely go back again if I ever needed anything else altered.
