Strange hybrid between fish and chips takeaway, and a full on Chinese restaurant with banquet options and an eel tank for truly fresh fish. We got 5 pieces of fish, and 2 orders of chips for a hungry family of 4. The fish pieces are about 10oz each, so this was the perfect amount of food for our family! The fish range from a red snapper ($10/piece) to NZ specific fish that were much cheaper ($5-8.5 per piece). Tbh, if they had not labeled the different types in the packet, I would not have known what was what! So go with the cheapest fish, it was all well cooked, fresh, and delicious

The restaurant was a gem in the town. It was operated by emigrants from Hong Kong. Both western and Chinese styles cuisines were offered. Seafood was their main dishes. The quality and quantity were above average. The owner used to communicate with guests, making recommendations and collecting comments. They were friendly and opened to opinions. Tuesday was their day off. Price was moderate because the cost of seafood was a bit expensive. There was a surcharge if using credit card for payment. They provided a free carpark at their backyard.

Just went there about a week ago with my family, they have a wide variety seafood options and dishes. Their lobster and abalone is all very big!! Super yummy, highly recommend for seafood lovers!! I love that we get to handpick the live lobster from the tank and they prepare for us fresh! U also get to choose the abalone and get to keep the abalone shell afterwards too! The restaurant owner told us the abalone shell can be used to make into jewelry!! Because their shell has this beautiful blue-ish purple hue and holographic effect, which us super shinny and pretty!! Anyways my family and i ordered the lobster and their black abalone. They say black abalone is a speciality of New Zealand, i guess it's true because I'm from Singapore and the only abalone i see here is those yellowish brown kind. They certainly do not have such pretty shells with shinny and holographic effect too

Oppies has award-winning fish and chips as well as a large selection of seafood and Chinese food. All of the meals I've eaten have been authentic, delicious, and plentiful. Dining in or takeaway are good options. The service is prompt, and the restaurant is clean. It may be very busy at peak times because Oppies Restaurant's food is excellent and a great value for the quality.

Iβve visited this place for takeaway before, but this was my first time bringing my family in for a sit-down meal, and it was absolutely fantastic! The menu is impressive and the owner is incredibly welcoming. If youβre uncertain about what to choose, donβt hesitate to ask for recommendations, the owner has great suggestions. The portion sizes are generous and the prices are very fair. Their fish and chips, along with other seafood dishes are truly the best. I canβt wait to return.

The $40 soup was extremely disappointing and definitely not worth it. The portion size was barely enough for one person. Moreover, the fish and chips were overly greasy, and the chips were disappointingly soft.

Fish and chips was alright but their scotch burger was yuck as I found a hair while I was eating my burger. HYGIENE ISSUE My takeaway order was ready sitting on the counter and the guy behind the counter looked at it and walked off and serviced other customers before giving us our order.

Who would have thought you would be able to get decent Chinese food at a fish & chips shop?! The dishes were really tasty and above average. My favourite was the blue cod - cooked just right and it wasnβt rough at all. Fish and chips was tasty too, the owner said they used rice bran oil which does add a different taste into them. Unlike other reviews, service was friendly and we didnβt have to wait long for our dishes to come.

No wonder itβs the best in New Zealand! It definitely earns its name! The staff are really friendly. The food is amazing! Especially the Tarakihi fish. Itβs a local fish and itβs super fresh! The potato wedges were out of the world!

The restaurant layout is interesting, except the lighting is a bit dim. The flavors are all good, and the heat of the fried food is well mastered. Especially the very good fish and chips, as well as a variety of other seafood, very suitable for children to have dinner here. We especially recommend seafood fried noodles, which can be said to be the best seafood fried noodles in New Zealand. The noodles are rich in flavor and the seafood is tender and juicy.
