   Yesterday afternoon (22/12), I took my 2-year-old son swimming at Jellie Park Recreation and Sports Centre. The pool wasn’t too busy, and this is a place we visit quite often. Unfortunately, our experience was disrupted by a boy around 10–12 years old who brought a water gun and repeatedly sprayed water at both of us. I told him clearly that I didn’t like it, but he kept doing it on purpose. To avoid the situation, I moved with my son into the children’s pool (2–5 years old). A short time later, the same boy followed us into that pool and continued spraying us again. A lifeguard nearby noticed what was happening and stepped in to warn the boy. However, before leaving, he still deliberately sprayed us two more times, then went on to spray other people around the pool area. The lifeguard later apologized to us, which I appreciated. I had told the boy more than three times that I didn’t like it, yet he continued to harass us. I strongly suggest the centre introduce a rule banning water guns inside the pool facilities to prevent situations like this. Well-behaved children usually stop immediately when asked and do not spray strangers. Clear rules and stronger enforcement would help families—especially those with very young children—feel safe and respected. I hope the centre takes this feedback seriously and tightens control on this issue. Thank you!

   Good facility. I’ve been swimming lengths in both 25-metre pools (Sport and Rec), divided into single lanes. The Rec pool water was very cloudy on my first visit but much clearer next time, so maybe a busy public-swimming week affects turbidity. Cost for a swim is NZ$6.70 (May 2025, concessions available). Cubbyholes available on Rec pool deck; benches on Sport pool deck; and lockers are also available. You can also leave valuables, such as phones, at the front desk. There are also a kiddie pool, a whirlpool and a sauna, plus a seasonal outdoor pool and indoor gyms. (Change rooms could use a soap dispenser in the shower stalls; one cubicle in the Ladies' changeroom is missing a shelf.) There really should be (mandatory) showers before entering the pools; as it is, there is too long a walk between the changerooms and the pools, so people don't shower first. The café has no vegan hot or cold baked goods, which is disappointing for a health-oriented facility. I did see a vegan Magnum ice-cream bar in the freezer. Pleasant staff. Popular facility with all ages.

   Great slides n pool price for 1 adult n child eg $20 total. It was so relaxing. Also 3 water slides..family spa..free bbqs..diving boards..indoor and outdoor pools!! Lotsa picnic areas too

   Just be mindful of the time you go. There is a zumba class at the gym on Monday & Wednesday at 10:15 so unless you can be there by 9:45 at the latest id wait till 11:30 before going on those days so you can find a carpark

   Changing rooms are not separated by the gender for fitness. It’s hard to accept for me. I would like to ask for all women staff to have shower and consider about it. One door is fine to access the common area like family shower but two doors are not safe, I think.

   Very enjoyable and beneficial Gentle Exercise class. Especially suitable for the retired. And no it's not sitting in a chair waving your arms in the air! Highly recommended.
