Expect poor service. Took necklace back as catch does not stay closed on expensive necklace ( worn a handful of times). Were told it was not a great catch, tried to sell us a $2000 chain which she said was on sale till tomorrow, then tried to sell us a new catch. She pointed out we did not get extended warranty, we pointed out was not fit for purpose & consumer guarantee act would cover it & was still under warranty anyway. Eventually has sent it away - will be weeks to get fixed. Disgusting service, sad as his shops were better in the past.

I came into store to choose a gift for a friend of mines. I was interested in purchasing some pearl earrings as that is something that she liked. It took a while before someone approached us. She asked me if those earrings were for me and I said “no they are for my friend.” She then turned to my partner and said to him that he should buy something for me as well. We both said “no thank you” because we were here to buy a gift for my friend. However this lady was rude and pushy. She kept insisting that he bought me something. She then said “I’ll show you some earrings for $15.” When we got to the counter she showed me the earrings and I said “they look too big for me.” But she kept pushing it and said “Don’t worry your boyfriend will buy it for you” I kept saying “no thank you, I don’t like it” And she kept saying “don’t worry about it” When it was time to put the sale through, she apparently put it all under one sale and I again said that I really don’t want those $15 earrings. She said don’t worry just pay for the gift. Then my partner paid for the earrings that I was purchasing as a gift for a friend. Suddenly the lady acted surprised and she said “I thought you were paying for your friend and that your boyfriend was paying for you.” I said to her “no I really did not want those earrings” and then she insisted that she couldn’t reverse the transaction. My partner then said to her firmly that she needed to fix it on her end as we were clear that we only wanted to buy the first pair of earrings. She argued with us and kept insisting that she genuinely couldn’t undo the transaction. She then called “head office” to ask them to fix her mistake, however this process took up a lot of time. This was an unnecessary and very unpleasant experience and would definitely not being going back here. I have already shared this experience with family and friends, telling them to avoid shopping at this specific store. Very rude and extremely unprofessional behaviour. I have already left a private review via a survey that asked about my experience. However no one has responded so I decided to leave another review here so that people are aware of the type of customer service that they might receive at this store.

I had really bad/worst and unprofessional experience today at Michael Hills. 3 weeks ago I visited Christchurch cashel street branch for my Chain lock repair, 1st of all they did not contacted me to advise they can’t fix lock of my chain and held my chain for 3 months weeks, I was in assumption that it’s is getting fixed so waste of time. And store Manger for this branch is very rude and instead of answering my questing she keep saying you have to pay $25 service fee. That was never disclosed to me . And she do not have any empathy and did not explain why they not called me or charged fee? Or held on my chain for 3 weeks when they can’t fix. VERY Unprofessional approach , it make sense now why this store have very low ratings. Also when I asked her to show me my chain that I want to make sure all parts are there she simply ignored me. All she was worried about was $25

Went looking for wedding bands and beautiful Ava helped us find the perfect one. We were not 100% sure about it but she put them aside for us as she knew we would be back. We came back today and even though we knew Ava wasn’t there, she had left everything ready for us. Mei helped us today and she was really good too. Both provided great service, hope the jewelry holds up!

Have had to have many arguments and escalate many times to get my necklace repaired twice within a year... and then they tried charging me for it. 500 necklaces shouldn't be breaking with single number wears and I definitely shouldn't have to pay for it. Will never purchase from Michael Hill again.

Quite possibly the worst customer service in history. They tell you what you want to hear until they have your money, then it all goes downhill. Where they tell you something and the next day a staff member tells you a completely different story about what happened. Picked up my rings today that cost over $1000, and got them given to me in a small plastic bag...not even a box! Definitely wont ever be back.

Updated edit on this 24/5/23 - this bracelet has broken for the 4th time and is away for repairs FOR THE 4TH TIME! I came here to get a bracelet repaired that I had purchased at the Riccarton store only 3 months prior approx. The bracelet chain broke. On its return, it had been stained and discoloured....!!!!!!!!!! The staff were totally unhelpful and told me the staff that had sent it away prior were being extremely nice to send it away in the first place!? The bracelet broke after 3 months.... how is that being nice? That should be the bare minimum. The staff were unwilling to help. So disappointed. I will never ever shop at Michael Hill again, and advise everyone else to avoid them too.

Prefer not to return - zero long term service! Dealt with an amazing older lady, I think potentially called Carol. We loved her to death and she really was the only amazing thing about the experience. Dropped $5k here and picked up jewellery, but couldn't even get them to confirm in writing that they had made the alterations we had ordered on purchase. Phonecalls/voicemail messages went unanswered. Incredibly poor service. South African store manager seemed nice at the time but made zero written contact as required. Disgusting that we paid so much for alterations and couldn't even get anyone to confirm that they had been done, for insurance. Carol needs to work in a different store. Their reputation lets her down. Untrustworthy, and would never return. What should have been an exciting engagement experience just felt like we were grossly taken advantage of.
