Nice walk. Wide path. Dogs on leash. Can waterski Oct-April but check website first for water conditions. Mixture of full-sun and shade around the lake. Picnic tables available. About 30-40 minutes
The lights at Lake Kainui are beautiful every time I visit.
Nice lake with easy walking loop for all ages. 40-50 minutes. Plenty of parking and if you bring a dog it must be on a leash
Birdsong, natural beauty, an easy path, this is a fabulous walk. Perfect bike ride for 5 year olds. Dogs allowed, on leads. Surprises provided by creative maimai and artistic fairy houses. Picnic areas by the main car park and rest seats around the lake, allow us to soak in the views. Loved it.
It's closed until 5/6 for duck hunting.. good view from the gate thought!
Lovely place to explore, wide flat gravel track right around. Easy walking with alternating sun & shade, thru bits of bush & plenty of open area to view the lake. Interesting to see the maimais. Some seats for people to sit, rest or just admire the scenery. No fitness needed, just meander at your own pace & enjoy the views. Picnic area to the left as you start
Great place for a short walk. Although beware at close to sunset— there are lots of mosquitoes & bugs!!
Quite a scenic location where the lake is so still that you can see the mirror reflection of the tree line. There is ample parking with picnic benches around to enjoy some rest or a meal. The neighbouring paddock has some very friendly dairy cows that come up to say hi and another paddock along the walking path has a herd of deer in it. Definitely makes for some nice photographs if you're a tourist from the city.
Nice free place for a walk. 3.2km gravel path right around the lake with toilets and picnic area a couple of hundred meters in a clockwise direction from car park. If you're into our endemic birds you'll find a couple of dabchicks which usually hang out on the north and northwest parts of the lake.
