How quickly a Cafe can go from one of your favourite places to relax and enjoy to one where you do not wish to repeat the experience. Today I ordered a corn fritter stack, DF, with greenery on top. The corn was almost inedible (reminding me of Maize which is fed to stock as a supplement), the greenery was not removed before being microwaved so had the appearance and texture of string, as did whatever the brown stuff was between fritters. The most tasteless corn stack I have tried to eat at a cafe. My own Dairy-free version, and others I have eaten at a number of cafes around the country, have been far more delicious and tasty. After searching for my own condiment container for the tiny bare mismatched table I sat down to wait for my meal. Coffee arrived quickly, was nice and hot, however I was already getting the feeling staff would rather be doing something else for the day. Same as a week ago when I visited and got lukewarm coffee. After pushing aside my food, I spoke to a staff member clearing tables and said the food was practically inedible. She said she would have a word to the "Chef", while I continued to listen to the next table talking clearly about family issues,- too near and too much information thanks! After waiting a few minutes and no further contact, I left, across and out the front of the cafe, so must have been seen. Sitting so close to the main counter also enabled me to notice the eye-rolling of some staff after talking to what appeared to be a couple of regulars. They paid too! We all Deserve better.

I've been coming here for a couple of months now. The coffee is always fantastic and the artwork on top of my coffee is absolute perfection made by the lovely Baristess, who is always friendly and welcoming and remembering who you are every time, makes for a more personal experience. The food is outstanding too and the lemon meringue tart is to die for.

Staff were very helpful. Accommodated our vegan request. We made a mistake with coffee order but Georgia put it right straight away and was really lovely to deal with!

Great food, great atmosphere, friendly staff. Loads of gluten free options that all taste like the real deal not cardboard. This cafe is right by my work so I've noticed their quality has been really consistent.

Had a nice lunch here the staff were welcoming and friendly. Hardly had to wait for food and coffee was no wait at all, on table not long after ordered. We will definitely be back to try something different for lunch.

Went to Red Eight for a coffee date, it was the first time I'd sat inside and had food as opposed to grabbing a takeaway hot chocolate (because they definitely have the best hot chocolate in Kaiapoi!) The staff was really nice and it was very clean, the decor was very trendy and would be a cute insta spot if you're into that kinda thing. We ordered the pancakes. They were absolutely amazing! We would highly recommend and are definitely coming back!
