Awesome place! Ivan is a legend! Built the place himself decades ago now in a super sustainable way, way ahead of his time! Been using solar since then. On a beautiful full acre of regenerating bush plus some tropical plants for that Central American / Southeast Asian backpacker vibe. Highly recommend!

The Bioshelter is a beautiful soul feeling Accommodation with a unique twist on bio diversity and Sustainability just an awesome feel and relaxing on so many levels i found myself drift away with the "Mauri" of the Whenua. Ivan is the most polite and courteous of Hosts and very knowledgeable of the Ngahere and passionate about the Environment his hospitality speaks for itself genuine and caring. One of the best priced accommodation options on Waiheke and really cool. Eco friendly place running on solar power and collected rain water. The double room was very light and spacious, interesting use of space. Ivan is an interesting and friendly fella. Recommend to anyone on a budget looking for a different experience.

This is an awesome eco-friendly hostel, the owner (Ivan) is a legend and he does so many good things for the nature of Waiheke Island. He suggested things for us to do that we wouldn't have known about - we got to help out the local community and got to meet some truly inspirational people. We didn't want to leave!
