1. Rabbit hole diaries ★★☆☆☆

   It is unfortunate the good old friendly customer service days have gone. We walked in for a quick lunch today and as I greet the man at the til he has no expression no response just an attitude. We were going to walk out but I had my 4 year old who was hungry so we stayed. We will not be coming back and we are locals. I recommend Howick village cafe never disappoints. All the best with your business I wish you learn from your customers and bring the hospitality and customer service level to standard. Columbus cafe should really follow up with franchise owners, it’s not a great way to bring a brand down.

   The food itself wasn't bad — decent flavor and presentation. However, that all went out the window when I found a hair in my dish. I politely asked the waiter for a replacement, expecting a quick resolution. Instead, she insisted it wasn’t a hair, but a “fiber from the mushroom.” She claimed she sees this kind of fiber “in the box the mushrooms come in.” That already sounded questionable, but I gave her the benefit of the doubt and asked to see the box. When she showed it to me, there were no hair-like fibers anywhere — confirming what I already suspected: she lied to avoid taking responsibility. Mistakes happen. I get that. But trying to cover it up with a made-up excuse only made the situation worse. A simple apology and replacement dish would’ve gone a long way. Instead, I left with a bad taste in my mouth. Disappointed and won’t be returning.

   Have ordered twice now Big Breakfast on UBER EATS and I demolished it because it was so fresh, and still hot when arrived. My coffee was hot. Had to leave a review regarding my Uber Eats orders I've made and how 10/10 they were everytime. Delicious sausages and the garlic mushroom so full of flavour. Thank you for such delicious food every order.

   Went to the cafe on sat for lunch the staff are friendly and attentive, making the service top-notch. The food, especially the Bennedict , was fresh and delicious. Highly recommend!

   I stopped by for Sunday breakfast, on the way to the shops. It was empty when I arrived, but soon filled up. After some dithering, I went for the Columbus breakfast, which I soon polished off. Quite impressive, as I often struggle, so whether this was just the right portion, or I was really hungry, not sure. The service was very friendly, and they checked up on me through the meal, which was very nice. The price was in keeping with what I got, which means not something I could do too often, but nice for a treat.

   Thought I ordered an oat milk coffee. Cashier must have misunderstood my order. I only drink oat milk. Got given normal milk instead. Took it back expecting them to replace it. They told me to line up and reorder, which I did still thinking the replacement would be free. Get to the front of the line and they want to charge for me for the replacement because it was my fault. So I ask for the coffee back that I had returned and they had thrown it out. Had I have known they were going to charge me for the replacement I would’ve given away the old one rather than returning it. There were three staff there shaking their head at me like I was trying to get away with a free coffee, when all I wanted was what I thought I had ordered and paid for. I ended up paying for the second coffee. Not a great experience, didn’t appear to be anyone working there has customer service experience.

   This Columbus in Highland Park is great, the management are really neat, especially the owner, she's lovely. Foods great again especially the mango chicken pie. Great location and very handy including plenty of parking, and the atmosphere is always great.

   Staff are so good and the food fresh yummy coffee hot not to strong The cafe is warm and welcoming Perfect place for an afternoon recharge Did not know they swapped from summer menu to winter but did not deter our options at all
