   Lamb Burger (2 stars): The burger was below average. While the lamb itself was flavorful, the bun was disappointing—it didn’t taste like a proper Chinese bun and was doughy on the inside while dry overall. The meat portion was also too small; about one-third of the bun had no meat at all, which made the burger feel unbalanced. Spicy Beef Noodles (4 stars): This dish was good. The noodles were flavorful and had a nice bite to them. However, the beef portion was very limited. There was a generous amount of noodles but only a few thin slices of beef. The beef itself tasted good, but the noodle-to-meat ratio could be improved. Spicy Beef Soup Noodles (3 stars): The beef was tender, and the noodles had a nice bite, the broth was ok. Overall, it was decent but not as tasty or flavorful as the spicy beef noodles. I would recommend the spicy Beef noodles.

   ⭐⭐⭐⭐ – Consistently Great Noodles with Room for Improvement Shaolin Kungfu Noodle on Dominion Road in Mt Eden has become one of our regular go‑to spots for a satisfying noodle fix. We've been coming here for quite a while now, and while it's not perfect, it consistently delivers on what matters most: delicious, handmade noodles that hit the spot every time. This is a 回族 (Hui ethnic group) restaurant, which means it follows Halal dietary practices. So, don’t expect to find pork on the menu, and you cannot bring your own food – something to keep in mind if you're dining with a group that has mixed preferences. The menu itself is unchanging, which can be a good or bad thing depending on what you're after. For us, it’s comforting to know exactly what we’re getting, and the dishes we love are always available. The noodles are the star of the show – fresh, chewy, and full of flavour. Whether it’s the beef noodle soup or the dry noodle dishes, the quality is consistently high. You can even see the chefs working in the open kitchen, which is located right inside the restaurant. It’s fascinating to watch them stretch and pull the dough by hand – a real showcase of skill and tradition. That said, there are a few areas where the restaurant could improve. The tables and chairs are often oily, which detracts from the otherwise authentic and casual vibe. It’s not a dealbreaker, but a bit more attention to cleanliness would go a long way. The service can be hit or miss – sometimes warm and attentive, other times rushed or indifferent. It really depends on who’s working and how busy the place is. Despite these quirks, we keep coming back because the food is reliably good and the atmosphere has a kind of no‑frills charm. If you haven’t tried Shaolin Kungfu Noodle yet, I definitely recommend giving it a go – especially if you’re a fan of hand‑pulled noodles and bold, comforting flavours. Just don’t expect fancy plating or a rotating seasonal menu. This place is all about authentic taste and tradition, and it delivers that well.

   We tried beef noodles which were quite nice but also had lots of fat attached as per another review here. They serve hot tea for free which is quite nice prior to a meal. We also tried dumplings which were quite bland and not the best dumplings but not the worst and with the Chilli and vinegar sauce it was yum. The atmosphere was quite dull and packed though and the seating upstairs was closed, I did not feel like it was exceptional service but it was not bad either. I probably wouldn't return here but I wouldn't complain either and I'd recommend trying it and seeing if it's up your alley for food

   The one on the shore is pretty good. But this one is dirty, the beef comes with lots of fat and the noodle is so soggy. Will not come back for sure.

   Delicious dumplings ~ but my favourite absolutely had to be the spring onion pancake. Lots of vegetarian options. These are clearly marked too which is always helpful.

   My noodle was cold and had no flavor!!! My partner went to ask the guy to heat it up and he was trying to argue and said it was hot. The dumpling soup had no flavor whatsoever even after adding the chili it still tasted bad. Worst noodles ever! I noticed the two guys in-front of us had been waiting for a while for their food and they were there before us and we got our food first. I feel bad for them, y’all really need to work on customer service and maybe add flavor to the food. If you want bland food go here. Go to the one in Albany their noodles taste better. Thanks.

   A popular spot for Chinese hand-pulled noodles! We got the famous Xinjiang lamb noodles which was really rich in flavour and definitely had a kick to it. The texture of the noodles was top-notch and was exactly what I came here for. The lamb was thinly sliced and well-seasoned but could have done with more lamb, there were only a few sad pieces of lamb. The kebabs were OK. The spring onion pancake was a good simple side dish. I highly recommend dipping it in the noodles sauce! Portion was huge for the price and food came out fast.
