   It was the beer and burger special that got my attention. The lovely waiter explained that the burger was small. It was. BUT in a world of overeating, the size was just right. The size of my palm - which from remembering- nutritionists recommends that. The chicken burger was filling and enough. We had a side of kūmara fries and a couple of rolls for my daughter and her boyfriend. I opted for a pineapple juice instead of the beer. The staff member serving us was friendly. I’d recommend stopping in here for sure.

   I’ve always been curious about the sign advertising Happy Hours from 12pm every time I walked past this place. Beer and wine for just $5, and a chicken burger with beer for only $15? It sounded too good to be true, which is why I never dared to walk in. But today, with the heat getting to me and finding myself heading home earlier than planned, I finally decided to give it a go. To be honest, the staff were shockingly unfriendly. No matter how much I smiled or tried to chat, all I got in return were looks that made me feel like I was bothering them. That said, the beer came out nicely chilled, and the burger—though on the smaller side—had a perfectly crispy piece of fried chicken in it. I was genuinely surprised that the deals on the sign were real! I ended up having a great time sitting at one of the big tables, watching the flow of cars and people along Ponsonby Road. But seriously, staff—show us a bit of a smile, will you? You’re in hospitality! The place was almost empty, and I can’t help but wonder if that’s down to the attitude of the staff.

   I recently visited Boy and Bird and had the pleasure of trying their crispy chicken, and it was absolutely delicious! The chicken was perfectly cooked with a golden, crispy exterior that gave way to juicy, tender meat inside. The seasoning was spot on, providing a nice balance of flavours without overpowering the natural taste of the chicken. The service was also friendly and efficient, making for a great overall dining experience. Highly recommend Boy and Bird if you’re craving some top-notch crispy chicken!

   We went there for dinner and it was not very busy, our drinks came out fast. The meal took about 20 minutes -we ordered a half chicken, a buttermilk fried chicken main (must try !) And a side salad. Everything tasted good and my little one enjoyed it. We even got a free bar of choc for the little one, it was a surprise and thanks to the team for making it a bit special in this ordinary day.

   Everything was cooked perfectly. The sauce was good. Chicken was crispy and moist. Just need to be seasoned. Lacking salt. Pickled salad that went with the burger was flavorless. Nonetheless, it was okay.

   If you are a salad lover and roasted chicken lover, YOU MUST GO! This is one of the best salads in Auckland, I had to go twice in a row. You can taste the quality of the ingredients. Go, go, go! That said, I do like my caesar dressing a bit more tangy and acidic so I always ask for a bit of vinegar on the side, and extra chicken!
