Hadn't been to La Zeppa for a few years but had a really lovely lunch with a friend last week. The food was superb, service friendly and unobtrusive. For some reason I always think of it more of a bar than a restaurant but will certainly be back for another dining experience. My first time using First Table and it was easy....plus the staff didn't make us feel like we were any less special than any of the other diners.

La Zeppa Kitchen and Bar in Freemans Bay offers a captivating dining experience with its exquisite decor and inviting atmosphere. The outdoor bar is perfect for summer, and the stunning outdoor space adds to the charm. We started with a shared platter of Kingfish crudo, preserved lemon cure, ajo blanco, pickled grapes, and harissa oil. Everything was fresh and beautifully balanced. Next, we savoured a creative Chopped wagyu beef tartare. The soft yolk and incredibly crunchy matchstick potato made it a standout dish. Amazingly delicious. The Skull Island prawn was a flavour explosion, cooked with nduja butter, lime salt, and focaccia. So yum. For mains we opted for the Bavette, bone marrow sauce, sherry, onions a broccoli. Those Sirloin flap was cooked perfection and the sauce..... smack out of the ball park. Totally absolutely beautifully executed. The Grilled half chicken was accompanied by fennel remoulade, Aleppo pepper butter, and lemon. The combination of spices and ingredients was truly remarkable. Finally, we enjoyed the Snapper with little clams, orzo, and green chermoula. It was an amazing dish, a perfect combination of flavours. Snapper, clams & orzo, what an excellent combination that blends so well together with the right ingredients, so yum de yum. To satisfy my sweet tooth, we shared Tiramisu with espresso, amaretto, and mascarpone. It was one of the best Tiramisu I've ever had. And our server Elaine was outstanding, always there when you need service. Love it

Celebrated my birthday here with the fam and it was such a good time! Our waitress Tamsyn was really kind and patient, honestly made the whole night better. Service was excellent, food was yum, and the atmosphere is stunning. I donβt drink alcohol but their cocktails are seriously a must-try β so good!

This spot is right next to my home, but I never had the chance to sit down for a proper meal until recently. The front has a cozy dining area, and thereβs also a lovely outdoor terrace at the back thatβs perfect for good-weather days. In the evenings, it turns into a lively bar with great vibes. I honestly didnβt expect much from the food, but it completely exceeded my expectations! We ordered the market fish and the beef bavetteβboth were absolutely delicious, fresh, and generous in portion size. Definitely high quality and well worth it. The restaurant itself is beautiful and very Instagram-worthy. On top of that, the service was amazingβthe staff member who looked after us was so kind and attentive. Highly recommend this place!

Fried chicken was lukewarm on arrival, potatas bravas was soggy, service was under staffed and disorganised and generally late. The tables near the bar were so dark as no one had sorted out lighting, everyone had to use their smartphone torches to look at the menu and eat food, the experience here is pretty bad and has gone downhill over the years.

We participated in the Art and Bloom event at La Zeppa on Sunday, August 13th, for my bridal shower, but unfortunately, our experience was marred by a challenging interaction with the manager. My bridal party and I purchased early bird tickets for the event, which were advertised to include a complimentary drink. This was not only stated on their website but also confirmed in the emails we received along with our tickets. The tickets even mentioned that we could claim our free drink by referencing our booking number. Upon arriving at the event and approaching the bartender to claim our free drinks before beginning the painting session, we were informed that there was an error, and we were not eligible for the promised free drinks. Despite showing our tickets, emails, and pointing out the information on the website, the bartender simply apologized and denied us the drinks. Seeking a resolution, I requested to speak with the manager, who claimed to be in charge. Frustratingly, the discussion escalated into a heated exchange during which he begrudgingly offered to cover the cost of the drinks himself, seemingly attempting to guilt-trip us for seeking what was rightfully promised. This unfortunate incident cast a shadow over what was supposed to be a delightful day for me. I had informed my guests that with early bird tickets, we would receive complimentary drinks, setting their expectations accordingly. Dealing with the manager in such a manner was an incredibly disappointing experience. If there was indeed an error in the communication between La Zeppa and Art and Bloom regarding the offer, it should have been addressed internally rather than involving the customers. It is my hope that La Zeppa will take measures to rectify such issues to ensure a more enjoyable experience for future patrons.

Of our 2 week trip around the north island, this has been one of our favourite dinners! The paella was not available unfortunately so we stuck to only tapas dishes. Each one was fantastic. The goats cheese sauce beneath the arancini was extraordinary, the char on the halloumi combined with the sweet grapes was a standout, the chicken bites were excellent... Prompt service and a bar with anything you could be after!

Food was well below average, none of it tasted fresh. The seafood was a bit foul. Service was very very kind and friendly. Maybe if I was rating this place as a bar Iβd go a couple of stars higher, but theyβve put βkitchenβ in the name so that means this is fair game.
