This is the first time I’ve ever written a review because I had such a horrible experience. I always drive almost 30 minutes, twice a week just to come and have my meal at this place because the food is just so amazing and the owner is really friendly but today I went with family and friends of 8. What happened was I saw it was full so I walked in and asked the worker with a glasses who stay at the till if I could get table for 8, he said there was only table for 4 available at the moment and so I told him we will wait outside and please let us know, he said okay. Then I saw another group of 4 finished and get out the restaurant which makes tables free for 8 but then there was new group of people coming after me and the worker let them sit on the tables which I don’t think that’s fair for us since it’s will only make us have to wait for longer, I went inside and talked to him and he was so unbothered and doesn’t seemed to care at all, I didn’t get any apology. I am really disappointed for my favorite place to service us like this, and I think this experience will make me not want to come again.

I really enjoyed the dry pot here. We ordered the mild but it’s easy to adjust with extra spice if needed. What I liked most is that it feels lighter than many other hot pot spots, making it a great option when you’re not in the mood for something too heavy. The ingredient selection is good and everything tasted fresh, with plenty of options to customise your bowl. I also appreciated the sauce station, where you can make your own sauce for free, a nice touch that really adds to the experience. Overall, a great place for a lighter-style hot pot that still delivers on flavour and flexibility.

Tried Mala Resto.. They offer 3 versions: 1 dry and 2 soup options. We always go for the dry version. The taste is pretty good, but what makes me really happy is their wide variety of sauces. They have so many options, and the sauce station is covered, which keeps everything clean, definitely a plus point! The ingredients section also looks neat, and most of the items are fresh.

Decent dry pot. We got the mild-med which was pretty mild but that’s just preference. The ingredients selection was good and fresh. The shrimp ball was by far my favorite as we don’t see it often in other hotpot places. There is a sauce station where you can make your own sauce for free. The store is clean and overall delicious.

My favourite malatang in auckland! amazing addictive soup base. They do it like no others, I go there monthly if not weekly. Can get busy during week hours but they always cook to food quick. Recommend soup!

Note: the name of this restaurant is MAD POT for anyone confused. My go-to mala restaurant on the shore. I come here quite often ever since my favourite mala place (Chinese cuisine @ Corinthian) closed down. They have a lot of variety of ingredients. Quality of meat can be somewhat inconsistent but never been bad. It’s also quite expensive compared to other mala places I’ve been to if you don’t control your portions. You can get as a tang (soup) or xiang guo (dry). I recommend the medium spice level for someone who doesn’t tolerate spice too well but still enjoys a bit of a kick. (Medium can sometimes be quite spicy depending on how much they put in) Always get the iced lemon tea drink to ease the mala taste and cleanse your palette every bite!

Exactly what you’d expect from a Malatang place. Pick your own food, then choice of cooking it in soup or stir fried. Will come back :)

Love this place. Great choice of hotpot or dried fried noodles. You select the ingredients and choose between not spicy, mild or spicy broth. Also a selection of condiments to have with it. We tried out the purple noodles today just for fun, no taste different to normal ones.
