After just landing in NZ it felt so odd to walk into a Woolies with barely any products on the shelf. Turns out this is the only place like this. Unsure why it is so empty

Nice for a quick grab when you need a couple things last minute. Shelves are clearing as the store is due to close down.

Unfortunately, Countdown Māngere is just as tired and outdated as the rest of the town centre. The store desperately needs modernising — it’s small, cramped, and feels like it hasn’t had a proper upgrade in years. The product range is very limited compared to other Woolworths. There are usually only two checkouts open, one express and one regular, and there are no self-checkouts, which makes the wait even worse. Outside the store, there are often homeless people sitting near the entrance, which adds to the overall neglected feel of the area. You’re better off going to the Airport or Māngere East Woolworths — they’re much more modern and better stocked.

Woolworths Māngere Mall, located within the Māngere Town Centre, provides a convenient and community-focused shopping experience for residents in the area. Open daily with accessible hours, the store caters to both early-morning and evening shoppers. While it isn’t one of the largest Woolworths outlets in Auckland, the layout is straightforward and functional, with well-organised sections for fresh produce, meats, bakery goods, frozen foods, and pantry staples. This clear structure helps make shopping quick and easy, especially for those stopping in for essential items. The product selection at Woolworths Māngere Mall includes a solid range of everyday groceries, with a noticeable emphasis on fresh fruit and vegetables, which are popular with locals. The store also stocks a number of multicultural and Pacific-focused food items, reflecting the diverse community it serves. Though the selection may be more limited compared to bigger branches, many regular shoppers appreciate the convenience and the familiarity of the store. Customer service is frequently described as friendly and welcoming. Staff are usually helpful and approachable, creating a positive environment for customers from all walks of life. The store can get busy at peak times, especially around weekends and benefit payment days, which can result in longer waits at checkouts, but the atmosphere generally remains calm and respectful. Being part of the Māngere Town Centre means the supermarket is surrounded by other useful services such as pharmacies, banks, and takeaway shops, making it a practical stop for multiple errands. Parking is generally available, and the area is well serviced by public transport. Overall, Woolworths Māngere Mall plays an important role in the daily routines of locals, offering a straightforward, dependable, and culturally attuned shopping experience.

I am a regular here, but still am outcasted like I am a thug. I'm basically here every week. Some of their prices for things are not realistic for people to buy. An example being the meat majority aren't even worth the prices their listed. Cannot forget the meat area has thuis certain body odour smell that is always there please do something about that. The workers are sometimes talking too much with each other that often they don't help when customers need it. Stealing happens right under the nose of the security guard and yet he refuses to see. But when I walked out he wanted to check my bag. Once he found nothing he apologized very poor of him. Placing staff on courses and classes may help with the progress at work.

I have never been there in years and I believe it's a very amazing supermarket at Mangere Town Centre but other countdowns I go to are more presentable and are better maintained

I had my 4 month old in a pram ( Edward's & Co Mx ) and I couldn't for the life of me, enter the countdown through the mangare shopping center side, I had to walk around and outside to get in. This was because of the broken/ bent steel barriers that countdown had in their entrance way on the shopping centre side. I then was looking to purchase a lighter and the staff member was not helpful and exclaimed they did not have any at the store, but didn't actually go check and didn't seek assistance from any other staff member. I then asked if they could help me with what shop might sell them in the area, and they Proceeded to tell me that they don't know that either. So it's a two star review from me.

Older store but has everything you need. I used to shop there with my Nan in the 1970s, so it holds some nostalgia for me.
