If you’re craving fish and chips done right, Go Fish in Petone is the spot to visit—or, given its cozy indoor seating, perhaps even a restaurant by the seaside (minus the sea, but with all the charm). From the moment you step in, the clean, no-fuss interior sets the tone: this is a place that takes pride in its offerings. Orders are served swiftly, even when the line stretches out the door—a common sight on weekends and holidays. Despite the bustle, the staff remains warm and efficient, adding a welcoming touch to the experience. The real star here is the food. Go Fish delivers exactly what you want from a classic fish and chips joint—crispy, golden batter encasing flaky, fresh fish, paired with chips that strike the perfect balance between tender and crunchy. Notably, nothing feels greasy; the quality of ingredients shines through, a rarity as many competitors cut corners. In a landscape where declining standards have become the norm, Go Fish stands out for its commitment to consistency and quality. It’s not just the best in Petone—it’s a benchmark for the category. Whether you’re grabbing takeaway or settling in for a casual meal, this is where tradition meets reliability. A must-try for locals and visitors alike.

We ordered the family pack which is great value. The battered fish pieces are warehou -amazing! The pāua fritter was a good size and tasted fresh and creamy coated with a nice crispy batter. There are a few tables for dine in, basic but clean. and they provide plates and cutlery.

Go Fish in Wellington is a true gem! Their fish and chips are simply outstanding. The fish is perfectly cooked, with a crispy and flavourful batter. The chips are heavenly—crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The variety of dipping sauces adds an extra layer of deliciousness. The service is friendly and attentive, and the cozy ambiance is the cherry on top. Highly recommend this exceptional dining experience!

My second time here now, I got the Nasi Goring again, it's really good. I'm going to try some other meals. The staff/owners are nice and friendly. Edited Jan 2023 Came again and got the sweet and sour pork.. its the best I've ever had. Slightly crunchy on the outside and incredibly tender inside. I can't wait to get some more. I also tried the chillie chicken and vegetables and very nice. 1st March 23 I got some Nasi Goring and sweet & sour pork to take home and ate over an hour later... it wasn't as nice as it normally is. I can only assume it was because it wasn't eaten fresh... fresh is best.

Good fish and chips shop, arguably the best in this part of the city. Meals are not overly greasy, with generous portions. Proximity to Petone beach means you can enjoy the meal with a view. Recommended

If you are after cheap options and in a hurry this is the place to go. Servings are considerably generous compared other similar outlets. Pretty nice people as well.

Amazing!! Good tacker! Friendly staff and yummy fish burgers. It was the first experience for me that the actual dish is much better than photos. I took a fish burger, hushed potato and coke set (No.08). Look! So huge! Regrettably I could not eat all. So asked a staff to give me a container to bring back my burger. She gave me a container and a paper bag. Wonderful service! Many customers were waiting inside of the shop to take away. You probably have to wait in a queue. But it is a definite value to wait some min.!
