Really delicious food with nothing to fault, and the coffee was perfect. I’ve given 4 stars instead of 5 only because there’s no table service. It was quite busy, so lining up was difficult, and given the higher prices and limited space between tables, table service would really would’ve elevated the experience

Visited Sushil’s Musclechef Kitchen & Café in Aotea and was greeted straight away by Sushil himself – incredibly friendly and welcoming. We chatted about how he created his Molten Embrace dessert from Choctober Fest, which turned out to be amazing – rich, indulgent, and beautifully presented. For entrées, we had the Dum Chicken which was juicy and perfectly cooked, served with a really unique mint relish I’d never tried before but really enjoyed. My main was the market fish with cauliflower purée, spinach, and coconut curry sauce – so full of flavour, even my partner (who usually hates cauliflower) loved it! He had the lamb shank with rogan josh sauce and saffron rice – an interesting twist on a classic and very tender. I also tried a keto coconut chocolate cheesecake from the cabinet, which wasn’t for me – not much sweetness and the shredded coconut base just crumbled apart. The only other downside was the cost; dinner for two (no drinks) came to $160. That said, the food was creative, the flavours were excellent, and Sushil’s hospitality really stood out. Worth visiting for the experience and personal touch. Highly recommend for diabetics very rare to find a place with so many keto options!

We’ve always enjoyed the high-quality, convenient daytime meals at Sushil’s Musclechef, but our first evening dining experience was something genuinely special. The evening service offers a more intimate and refined atmosphere, paired with a thoughtful menu that highlights Sushil’s unique culinary identity—blending cultural heritage and modern flavour in a way that feels deeply personal and original. We started with the pumpkin soup with coconut, rich and comforting, and the smoked chicken Caesar salad, fresh, vibrant, and beautifully presented. The mains were outstanding: the braised lamb shank was melt-in-your-mouth tender, infused with bold, soulful flavour, while the market fish was perfectly cooked and delicately seasoned. Dessert was a highlight—the chocolate fondant, with its warm molten centre and vanilla bean ice cream, was pure indulgence. We ended the night with extra hot oat flat whites, smooth and perfectly made. While the daytime menu brings quality and convenience, the evening experience feels crafted, personal, and elevated—a reflection of Sushil’s passion for food and hospitality. His presence and care make all the difference. A special experience worth repeating. We’ll definitely be back. A true local gem. Lalo Fiso

An absolutely delightful experience. We stuck with simple food for a light lunch but it was delicious all the same, we look forward to sampling the more interesting fare in the future. Finished off with a delectable slice. The staff were friendly and helpful, especially Sushil himself, and made for a thoroughly enjoyable experience. Will be back again and again.

The food was amazing! Had the tacos - portions were generous the price was so affordable for the quality and size. Was a talking point as it’s a hard shell wrapped in a soft shell. So no fillings fall out! Took my mother in law there. Was packed and service was the best I’ve received in the entire wellington region. Cafe is humble but cannot fault it as it’s such a buzzing atmosphere with great service and amazing tasting food. Even our Curley fries were cooked on point. I’m making excuses now for friends and family members to meet up for a brunch because I need to go through the menu and the daily specials looked Devine. My hubby and I live in Aotea. You’ve definitely got a loyal customer from us now. The chef even came out and was so present and friendly when he asked us how our meal was. Cannot fault. Keep up the good work. So happy to support such a great business. Tom & Julie

This place was absolutely amazing! Was recommended to me by my brother and it exceeded my expectations. I ordered the steak sandwich which was cooked to perfection. My friend purchased the jackfruit tacos which were also fantastic. Great portion for a reasonable price. The owner was very accommodating and made sure we had everything we needed. I could tell he takes great pride in his cafe as I watched him greet every single person that came in, as well as said goodbye. Highly recommend and will definately be back soon.
