We visited the Kapiti Island preserve, and had a wonderful time. Himi and Piki are wonderful hosts, and we unconditionally recommend this to anyone visiting the Wellington region.

My daughter and I recently experienced the classic day tour on Kapiti Island. The staff are knowledgeable and relaxed, while being very helpful and friendly. The scenery and bird life are exquisite, enjoyable catered lunch at the lodge, thoroughly recommend this tour to NZers and tourists alike.

Be careful when you book. If you cancel, it must be at least 2 weeks prior or you will pay dearly. BUT they can cancel your booked tour based on numbers, not weather, and you could be VERY stuffed with your dates and accommodation, yet they do not offer to refund you, they only offer to change dates. My tour was moved to a day with worse weather, after a very wet and windy night, to suit their numbers. I could have not arrived as early as I had planned, but I couldn't cancel my accommodation for my first night, as it had been charged the day before my tour was moved (a Friday), so I was not going to get any refund for the motel. I couldn't believe that a business could mess with our booked dates just to suit themselves. My first night was $180 and not necessary after all. Even the night before the new date, I was told to check if by 7 am the tour would be canceled again due to low numbers. Well I had to go the following day and drive for 7 hours plus clean my accommodation, so it would have been a disaster if it had been moved a second time. A shame because the operators seemed nice and the island is beautiful.

To celebrate our 30th wedding anniversaries, four couples were in search of a truly special adventure β€” we found Kapiti island Nature to be the perfect tour and place to go. From start to finish, every member of the team made our experience unforgettable. Whether it was the warm welcome, the expert guiding by day and night (including the incredible kiwi-spotting walk!), or the great meals and thoughtful care over our two-day stay, we were looked after so beautifully. You all turned our celebration into something magical, filled with joy, connection, and lasting memories. We left Kapiti Island changed β€” no longer seeing it as a cold, dark place, but as one that is alive with light, nature, and spirit. Thank you for everything.

Having just returned from 2 days on the beautiful island of Kapiti, I felt like we were transported to another world. The weather really put on a show for us, gorgeous both days. Upon arriving on the island, we were greeted with unparalleled bird song. Starting our trek up the hill, on a gentle, zig zag route, we encountered hihi, kererù piwakawaka and weka, and many more. Back on the flats, we saw takahè, kàķà and yes, a cupla kiwis at night. Hospitality was amazing. They made us feel right at home with their generosity. Manaaka was particularly wonderful, and thoughtfully shared his history with the land and his Whanau's story. The food was delicious and plentiful. Great produce and cooked extremely well, simply done. Thanks Chef Ben! My cabin was as comfortable and charming as I would've hoped for. Sitting out on the deck, watching the bird life right in front of me was magical. I would return here in a second, and will hopefully soon.

Amazing and informative staff! Much quicker boat ride over than I was anticipating (which I was pleased about) challenging walk up the trig track, such beautiful nature, clean air, so many bird sounds, we got super lucky with the weather too. And had a cheeky Kaka play around with us that the feeding station.

Amazing experience. The boat ride was alright, the island was great with the exception of some track maintenance closing down the majority of walks on the southern part of the island. Saw lots of amazing birds. The hospitality was phenomenal. The food provided competed with the beautiful nature and birds for most memorable experience. Accommodation was a real let down. We chose the slightly more expensive option off a cabin, compared to the glamping tents, however we got put into this small corner room of a four room little hut, with bunk beds. This really took the romantic element away from our weekend, especially given that the walls were paper thin. There were other cabins that appeared to be standalone, and more in line with our expectations. We did also see the tents, which were super roomy and we had mad regrets of not taking the Cheaper option for what would have been a better experience accommodation wise. Would have been a glowing 6/5 stars if it weren't for the subpar corner room with bunk beds.

our kapiti guided day tour was amazing. We visited Kapiti in Dec. 2022. It was a nice day and our guide Sky is super nice, friendly and knowledgeable. We had learned so much about this breath-taking island. We had an unforgettable time there, watching and listening to birds, embracing the nature. BTW, our lunch at the lodge was delicious.

Our overnight trip to Kapiti island with my family was magnificent. We took my 10 month old and nearly 4 year old sons and they were brilliant and so accommodating. The island is beautiful, the guides knowledgeable and the birds spectacular. Also the food at the lodge was fantastic and the set up is great, very relaxed and family friendly. We heard Kiwi but unfortunately didn't get to see them this time (they had seen them the night before) so we will just have to come back again to spend more time and see them.
