Check in begins for our flight at 10.35am, but the Qantas desk to be able to drop bags doesnβt open until 11.35am. Followed by the customs and security gate not opening until 12.30pm. Absolute joke when we have paid for business class and have lounge access we can not use.

Though small, nice and clean. All the Christmas trees have been setup there by now leaving a pleasant and happy Christmas vibe.

Great and clean place. Lord of the Rings theme still going strong. Staff are friendly. Only downside-Not the most obvious navigation to the hotel next door.

Efficient little airport, with fairly many and decent coffee and food options (mostly before security) for its size. Note that security screening for international departures closes in between flights (or maybe it's lunch break?) and only opens around 2h before the next international flight (or just always at 14:30?) Edit post security - just had to decuct a star for this. Security here has 3D CT scanners, which means you don't have to remove electronics or liquids from your bags anymore. Usually, that speeds up the security check considerably, but not here. First they bottleneck the security screen by having someone tell everyone how to put their stuff on the trays. Thus the scanner itself is just used for about half its capacity. Then about every other bad seems to get flagged for manual check, in my case because I had a large power bank in there. And you must keep your distance and definitely not touch your bag while they search it ... I could have told them immediately where I put my power bank, but instead they looked everywhere else in my backpack first. I mean, at least ask so you go into the right compartment from the beginning?

A lovely little airport in the capital with ever changing displays depending on whatβs on. This time is World of Wearable Arts and Doctor Who. Although it isnβt a large airport, itβs a combination of domestic and international services with a mix of local and overseas retail stores. Thereβs also a great selection of food outlets for a coffee and meal during those long wait times. New parking facilities and hotel accommodations are a plus.

I love Wellington Airport. You can find lots of huge scale models from the Lord of the Ring inside of the airport space. The airport itself is not huge, but it has plenty of eateries, coffee shops, and bars. If you arrive during the daytime, you can get a shuttle bus to the Wllington city center for 5 dollars. Self check in works like a charm, so I never saw long check-in lines here.

We deliberately arrived early for our flight to have breakfast and watch planes and people. The Lego velociraptor Lego was literally amazing as an addition to Gandalf and the huge birds which we have seen for many visits to the airport.

βInternationalβ is a huge overstatement. WEL is mid size domestic airport, good enough to get in and out to capital city, with plenty of functional space, several coffee and food options, which are actually much better than other airports in the country. Security area for the bigger planes is a bottleneck, not very modern and not efficient with always long queues. If you donβt arrive at least half an hour before boarding you may miss your flight because of that. Regional gates on the other hand are straightforward with no security at all, which always amazes me in this country. βInternationalβ section is on the left hand side next to Jet gates and is tiny and not up to the international standards. Luggage collection downstairs is tiny and crowded. Ride share is 3 mins walk , while airport promotes useless cabs that none wants to use. If you are heading to city you can take Uber or bus , there is no other choice sadly and itβs only one road with always very heavy traffic, especially morning time.

Wellington International Airport is a welcoming place. Everyone is just so kind, friendly, and welcoming. There are many cafΓ©s, eateries and shops, where you can spend your time while waiting. To highlight that the prices are really honest and basically the same you find in the city! Most importantly, I found everywhere clean and tidy!

Airport is usually pretty clean and tidy. Lot of cafes if you donβt have lounge access. Recommend Three Quarter Society, Peloton, and Best Ugly. You need to go through security to access the AirNZ lounge unless you are on the regional flight. Regional AirNZ lounge is often not open on weekends. Regular buses from the Airport two and from the city, most of the time are every 15 minutes.
