What a beautiful place to stay just outside downtown Auckland, walkable to shops, cafes, and night life scene. They were very accommodating after arriving from a early international flight, storing our bags until check in so we could explore. Clean tidy rooms, large kitchen and common space. Great place for single backpackers, or families traveling with older teens. We will stay here again.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Verandahs. We will definitely stay here again when needing accommodation in Auckland. TL:DR version: clean, friendly, great location, kitchen area is fab, loved the historic vibe of the buildings. It's made up of two historical buildings which made for a very cool touch point of the history of Auckland as a city. Huge 12 foot ceilings made it all feel open and airy. The feel of it all was chill and peaceful. The room was clean and comfortable. It had a great view of the park and you can see SkyTower from the deck. The beds were comfortable. We had a queen and single in our room, which was perfect for our family with an old teenager. Other rooms have 2-3 single beds, which is really manageable if you're staying in a shared room, then you aren't trying to move and live around 5-7 other people like it can be with bunk rooms at other hostels we've stayed at. The shared kitchen area is well stocked with cooking/eating equipment. The frying pans we're actually really decent (versus some hostels that have worn and chipped pots and pans). Two nice big tables to eat at, or a patio table out on the lawn. There are two large shared fridges to keep your self labelled food, and a large pantry room for your self labelled dry goods. Labels we're even provided, so helpful. There's a large shared lounge through the doors from the shared kitchen, really comfortable with large couches and chairs. The washrooms were kept clean. Cleanest hostels washrooms we've ever experienced, cleaner than some full hotels that we've stayed in. The location is fantastic. It's about a block and a half to an excellent grocery store. It backs on to one of the oldest city parks in Auckland, which makes for an excellent spot to go for walks and be in nature while still being in the middle of town. The cross street is Ponsonby, which is several blocks with of fancy restaurants, little hole in the wall restaurants, clubs, bars, and other businesses like a serving hand book shop. It's really easy access to the Verandahs by bus to Auckland Central, and was decently accessible by bus and train from the airport.

The rooms are nice, clean and really good value for money. There is a spacious community area with a kitchen and even a beautiful garden to enjoy your time there. The receptionists are super friendly and will help you with any question. If you need good recommendations for a restaurant or activity, just go and ask!

Clean and comfortable hostel with everything you'd need in the kitchen. The beautiful garden and balconys face a park and some city skyline. Great location for transport, felt safe and secure, everyone working there was incredibly helpful and informative!

Verandahs is a super cozy hostel. The owner is incredibly friendly, always up for a chat and very helpful β just like his staff member Mat. The old house has so much charm, it feels more like staying with friends than in a typical hostel. Everything is extremely clean (honestly one of the cleanest hostels Iβve ever stayed in) and the rooms have only a few beds β plus proper single beds instead of bunks, which makes it much more comfortable! The garden with its great view is a real highlight and perfect for relaxing. Itβs also really easy to meet people here, the atmosphere is friendly and laid-back. On top of that, the location is perfect: quiet, yet just a short walk to Ponsonby or downtown. For me, it was the ideal place to arrive in New Zealand and start my journey. Absolutely recommended!

The location was amazing we never had to wait for a bathroom. Loved the park next door. Staff was really nice. Good kitchen and love that they compost. Rooms are very basic and it wasnβt very social. Biggest issue was definitely the wifi always stopped working.

I really enjoyed my stay here. The rooms feature a tall ceiling and beautiful architecture. The bathrooms are individual and they're super clean. Note that there are 2 buildings and if your room is a "C" or alphabet then it's not in the building where the office is but the other one. Super quiet. Street parking and felt safe. Would stay again.

I had to share a room with staff. I didn't think it was fair on me as I wanted to meet fellow travellers, nor was it fair on the staff having to share with different guests every night. Otherwise stay would have been a genuinely good backpacker hostel.

Absolutely lovely. Gorgeous hostel in two spacious villas within Ponsonby. Large and clean rooms, with a great kitchen/lounge area downstairs. By far the best hostel in Auckland.
