Do not stay here. We arrived well after the indicated check in time, only for the room to not be ready. The reception staff were rude and dismissive. Thank goodness we requested to see the room before we paid. The room smelt, there were large blood stains on the carpet, mold in the shower and on the walls, dust, spider webs, hair in the sink. The tiled floors had clearly not been mopped. The furniture was falling apart. We had never seen a room in such a state. When we advised the staff that we would not be staying in the room, the lady at the reception immediately went on the defense and asked "why did you stay up there for so long then?". We were booking a new hotel last minute. We didn't get any sort of apology, only a thumbs up to indicate that we could leave. Absolutely disgusting.

We had a great stay at VR Auckland City. The service was awesome, and the staff were very easy to communicate with requests like parking were handled quickly and smoothly. The room was comfortable, and the overall experience was truly enjoyable. Highly recommended, and weβll definitely stay here again the next time weβre in Auckland!

The experience will depend on the room that you will get. I booked for 3 nights and the room that I've got first was terrible, furniture was old with spots, a lot of dust, shower door was not cleaned for many months, vent net never cleaned. The wall was with a hole. I went to the reception and they offered to change the room next morning. The second room was fine, clean, with a good view. Staff was friendly and understandable.

I'll start with the few positives: the apartment-style rooms are very spacious and comfortable, the location is excellent during the day, and some of the reception staff were very polite. On the other hand, the negatives: the cleanliness was a disaster. The walls and ceilings were dirty, and there were food scraps in the cupboards. I even found a note from the previous guest complaining about all of this in the desk drawer. Not only did they never read the previous guest's review, but they didn't even clean the drawer where it was stored. Although the area is very central, at night it's a different story, with many homeless people on the streets. The hotel staff was very friendly, except for one person who greeted us on the first day and didn't seem willing to explain anything. The rooms have a kitchenette, but there were no cooking utensils provided. Finally, before booking the room, we requested assistance with carrying our luggage up to the room, as there were only two of us with a lot of luggage (10 suitcases). It was the same as nothing, nobody helped, and they didn't even offer the carts to move the suitcases, I had to take them myself, and they are so damaged that it is impossible to use them.

Absolutely amazing spot so close to everything you need, plenty of space in the apartment hotel room I had for the night. A personal Balcony, washing machine, dish washer. Room was super clean and amazing value for money. Soundproof from the busy traffic outside was awesome. The bed was comfy as, walking Into the room and the aircon was great I turned up the heat a bit. The view was great to me of the sky tower and harbour. Receptionist was super helpful and let me check in early after a busy morning on planes, trains and walking. One thing I didn't like about some places In Auckland was all the non contact places I carry cash and many places didn't accept cash.

Room was very dirty. 3 random socks lying around. Dust everywhere, greasy fingerprints over the toaster. If I wasnβt so tired I would have found another hotel. AC was very noisy and it appears the filters have never been cleaned including every grille in the room . The doors were also broken and couldnβt be shut into the bedroom wonβt be staying here again. Also airport transfers are more expensive than an Uber.

Checked in early. Two bedroom apartment clean room clean bathroom. One of the lifts was out on arrival. Housekeeping cart was blocking the hallway. Parking is cramped and costs $30 per day. Luckily the parking spot we were allocated was near the entrance .So were were able to get in and out without too much trouble. Smoking was permitted on the balcony .So we kept the doors closed and collected all the butts whilst smoking. A definite plus compared to other hotels with ' designated smoking areas' . We were able to get additional keycards for entry as we were travelling with another couple.

I was a bit skeptical to go here due to high amount bad reviews. However, this place exceeded my expectations. The service we received matched the price we paid. Room was nice and tidy. Very spacious with lots of other amenities to make your stay comfortable. Bathroom was super clean and was very nice. We loved the view from our room. All staff members were friendly and even inquired multiple times if we require anything else which was very nice. The only small thing would be to improve your breakfast menu option a little more as the current options aren't too appealing. For any new visitors if you feel quite doubtful to go here after seeing most of other reviews, I'd say you should give it a chance and hopefully it will be nice experience as it was for me and husband. Thank you team VR, keep up with good work. :) P.s. This is not a paid/affiliated review as I too have such doubts when reading super nice reviews.

My partner and I stayed at this hotel for one night after getting a discount on the room through Qantas rewards. Whilst the hotel room was spacious, the room was cockroach infested. During our stay we saw no less than seven cockroaches crawling on the walls, the toilet and in the shower. We have never had this experience at a hotel and we certainly wonβt be staying there in the future.
