   If you have medium expectations, the Surrey is a good place to stay when visiting Auckland, especially if you have a car. It is fairly central and close to a great nearby cafe called Toast and Tonic, which serves some of the best coffee in Auckland. While the rooms have been upgraded over the years, there are a few maintenance details that let it down. The glass shower doors were not aligned correctly and jammed, and the shower handles had exposed bulging rubber hoses. The restaurant had also run out of chocolate powder, so chocolate drinks were unavailable. Only 2 towels were initially provided for 3 people staying, however the on call staff quickly resolved this and were friendly and helpful, which was appreciated.

   Up here from Invercargill. Stayed here, for a couple of nights due to work commitments from Monday, the 10th of November to Wednesday, the 12th November 2025. Initially, good presentation rooms were nice and clean and fresh. The rooms were nice and quiet in what I stayed in which was a big plus. There is nothing worse than staying in a place that has a lot of street noise. So this was a good selling point for me. Bathroom and toilet area was clean and impeccable. Attached restaurant, which was quite convenient with good menu options. Staff were very pleasant in any of my interactions with them and are to be commended. I had no problems with room service and they did a good job as best as I could tell. The beds were comfortable enough and each room had a small fridge and facilities to make coffee and tea. My only complaint would be the U.H.F milk rather than having real milk in the rooms, which would be much more desirable. The attached restaurant was great, very pleasant staff and quite reasonably swift service. The food I had was very much how I expected and liked. The restaurant was good enough just to walk in off the street even if you weren't staying there at the Surrey. I'm happy to recommend this place and would be happy to come back here. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️from me.

   Really happy with our two night stay at the Surrey. All the staff were super friendly and helpful. Rooms clean and fresh. Pool kept the kids happy. Food at the pub was delicious! We had a breakfast and a dinner meal, both times with 10 people and the food was hot fresh and delicious. It’s not a super fancy hotel but it was everything we needed for our little Auckland vacation - proximity to the zoo was super helpful too!

   A lovely little spot centrally located near the zoo and not to far from th CBD. Great food and amenities. My only complaint was that the bed wouldn't move away from the wall. If you are a constant moving sleeper like me. Will definitely stay again.

   Great experience staying with family with 3 young kids. Really nice 2 bedroom apartment with newly refurbished bathroom and comfy beds and pillows. Super reasonably priced for location and lovely staff. Although not in city centre, it had unlimited parking and only 2 km out and super close to Ponsonby.

   Loved this hotel! Has a pub for meals, the staff are easy to deal with and super friendly. Comfy and great prices too! The pool is a bonus if you have kiddies get them in there and burn some energy. The rooms are really nice too! I preferred to stay away from the main suite which I think ended up being better but make sure you get in early if you want a spot in that car park.

   Rented a room here as a place to spend the day, get ready and store our belongings before a concert. We did not stay overnight. Room was large and well equipped. The room design was basic and some of the furniture was showing its age, but overall it was very clean, well presented and comfortable. The bar and restaurant had a great atmosphere and the pizza was fantastic. The buildings and grounds have a great character to them. All the staff we encountered were friendly and welcoming. The complex also features an indoor pool which we did not notice when we booked, so weren't prepared to use. Very pleased with our time here and for the price it was well worth it.

   Our room was not quite available on arrival but we sat by the pool and waited. The staff at reception were really friendly and welcoming, we had booked 2 rooms and they were a long way away from each other which was interesting. The hotel is quirky as it is various buildings connected to each other. The younger people in our group enjoyed the pool. The rooms were clean and comfortable and both rooms had air conditioning. We all slept well And enjoyed the complimentary coffee and tea in the room. There were loads of complimentary body washes etc in the rooms. The only issues were key cards not working initially and the beds in one of the rooms were very skinny, smaller than a normal single bed.
