Free campsite near by . The seal are not the all year long . The walk is beautiful and not hard , could be very windy . Beautiful sunset and sunrise

Loved this as the starting place of a beautiful and sometimes challenging hike. Partly in the mountains and partly on the beach, it was awesome and I even saw a seal (the animal not the singer).

This visitor centre is at the start of the Red Rocks track at Owhiro Bay There's a car park where self contained freedom camping is allowed. The centre has toilets and the Carabean coffee cart The centre has explanations of the Red rocks, local flora and fauna and is freezing in winter as the sun doesn't arrive until about 2pm!

amazing spot, it is the entrance to red rocks, a great spot for various trails, hikes which you can walk, jog, run. highly recommend if you are wanting a good nature spot in Wellington.

Beautiful place that you have to visit if you come to Welly for a visit. Among the rocks you find many dark green or light blue starfish, they are beautiful and some other things that the tide brings to the coast. Also there is the trail that takes you to the red rocks where in winter you can see the seals, but you can only access it on foot or if you have a 4x4 vehicle. We didn't go because we didn't have time since it's a half hour round trip.

Nice little costal walk up to Devils Gate. About 4km each way. There is a great coffee van at the visitor centre

Beautiful spot even when it's pouring down & blowing a gale. Quite a few camper vans in the area.

An amazing place to visit, trek, relax, and freedom camp (we didn't, but so would love it, if we could). The information center is lovely. There are public toilets and lovely sitting areas. Sorry, my phone went flat whilst on the walk, so I couldn't take photos of the lovely garden bench seats. It's a bit of a drive to get here, but well worth it. Bring a picnic, plenty of water, have a swim and enjoy the coastal walk, it's about 8kms round trip, 95% flat, with a couple wee elevated areas (nothing really). Gravel all the way. There was a coffee caravan there too.

Good spot to stay the night if going with the ferry. Basically no phone coverage so you have to walk back a couple of hundred meters to find a signal. Could be bad if you get a message about delays etc. Nice walk along the beach and clean toilets. 20 minutes from the ferry terminal.

The pace is super windy and needs people to get proper layers. Walkable for adults but wouldn't suggest if you have a baby below 2yrs. It's quite a walk before reaching to the read rocks where you will see plenty dolphins. Worth view for pictures and nice for toddlers to get a look at happy dolphins. Best to hitch a ride in a 4 wheel drive but paid services are too expensive.
