Misleading advertising practices where they rope you in with free promotions which aren’t actually free. Clearly don’t understand consumer law or advertising standards.
Was also pressured into signing a document without reading it. Turns out I registered for 12 weeks, assuming it was 4. Their cancellation policies are insane, requiring you to give 1 month notice. I've been forced to pay $800 for classes I am not attending. And why I'm not attending: my personal trainer had no clue what they're doing. Some of the other trainers need training in human relations. I was yelled at and dismissed by a trainer for asking a question during a group class. They appear friendly and welcoming when you sign up but then things change. Would not recommend.
I attended a consultation on Wed 1 March and was shoved an eftpos machine in my face and a written agreement to sign up to a $99/week programme for 24 weeks. I didn’t have the time to look over my budget but I had a strong feeling I couldn’t afford it. I didn’t sign any papers but did give a checking account I don’t use often to the trainer and asked if I could read over the agreement at home. Still, I hadn’t signed the papers but the following week, on Wed 1 March 2023, I was booked into another consultation which I did not confirm my absence/attendance. That same week on Thursday 2 March 2023, $402.74 was taken from said account and it was by Toa CrossFit. I hadn’t signed any agreements whatsoever or made a verbal agreement/commitment to the program or to ToaFit, thus I was confused why $402.74 was taken from my account. This was the lump sum of 4 weeks of the $99/week programme I was offered plus a debit and credit fee etc. I have since been emailing and texting the owner of the gym on Thursday 2 March for my refund as this is illegal and blatant violation of basic contract law principles. I was told that because I missed the first session on Wed 1 March 2023, I would still be charged $85 for the missed session. Nothing on the website or in any agreement suggests that an $85 fee would be invoked from a missed session by a non-member like myself. It is now Tuesday 7 March and the ToaFit team has advised me that they will “honour” the $30 payment which was part of “my agreement”. This is despite there being no agreement or contract formed between ToaFit and I. I understand there are processes in a business but to brazenly ignore my non-signature of an agreement and charge me a fee of $402.74 cents it hour my knowledge is incredibly ridiculously and ILLEGAL! I wish I could have been able to afford to attend a gym and make use of their facilities but after their steep prices and their lack of thought and basic knowledge of contract law, I DO NOT RECOMMEND TOAFIT. I just want my money back so I can get on with my life! Please…
TOA have a fantastic group of friendly trainers who are welcoming and supportive regardless of fitness or CrossFit experience level. Their 6 week challenge was a great way for me to re-ignite my fitness regime with good support around both the fitness and nutritional aspects. I saw really quick results, so good motivation to stick at it and see it through! Would definitely recommend TOA and their 6 week challenge to anyone who has the opportunity to consider it. The best gym I've been to! Friendly, welcoming and encouraging, the team are super knowledgeable and really want to help you achieve your goals - always going that extra mile to help get you there, giving personalised advice and help. You don't need to be ripped or super fit to do it, and with the variety of classes, they cater to everyone. What really makes it is the community, people make an effort to talk to you and everyone is friendly and encouraging. 10/10 would recommend!
TOA is easily the friendliest CrossFit box I have had the pleasure of being part of. From day one I was welcomed in by the team of incredible coaches and encouraged to perform better. As a result, I am able to do some incredible things that I never expected to achieve so late in my day (pull-ups and beast that ski urg like I was in the Olympics, lol ). There's no doubt that I'm fitter, mentally stronger and a whole lot happier due to coming here. Plus, I met some beautiful people who I'm pleased to now call friends. TOA is not just a CrossFit box - its the friendliest box in New Zealand. Sweat, it out, have fun and leave as a friend.
Went there for a couple of weeks while on a business trip. Great atmosphere, awesome community, and very welcoming. Thanks to all the coaching for making me feel like any other member there. Looking forward to have the opportunity to go back.
