   Overall, excellent stay. Well equipped gym and swimming pool. Good location. Higher floor front facing rooms have good views. Lift is very fast and modern. Decor is excellent. Breakfast service could improve- looked short staffed. Wish there was better communication between Accor and the hotel. Booked through Accor but asked to pay double of that! Resolved later.

   We have stayed here twice now and really enjoy it. It is easy to get to. They make valet parking a breeze. The rooms are a good size, breakfast is great and we really enjoy the inside pool/ spa/ sauna that you can use regardless of the weather. I would definitely return.

   Our stay at SO Auckland started off really well. Check-in was smooth, and the service from the staff, including valet, was exceptional. Every interaction we had during check-in and throughout the evening was professional, warm, and genuinely friendly. We also made a couple of calls and requests from the room, and the service was consistently fantastic. We were very happy with that side of things. The issues began once we got to the room. The heating unit wasn’t working, and it took a couple hours to get it fixed. During that time, the room was freezing, and we felt like we couldn’t really leave or relax until the problem was resolved, which completely disrupted our anniversary evening. When it was finally sorted out, the maintenance person was excellent and very helpful, but the problem wasn’t user error. They had to go upstairs and reset something in the building system. We also had to call down to request extra towels, as there were only two in the room. That seemed insufficient for a hotel of this standard. The room was generally clean, but the carpet felt old, and the biggest issue was the chair next to the bath, which had visible semen stains on it. It was extremely off-putting, especially on a romantic night away. It completely killed the atmosphere and made us uncomfortable for the rest of the stay. We took photos. Another major disappointment was that the rooftop bar was closed for a private event. We weren’t notified about this at any point, and it was one of the main reasons we booked this hotel. It was a key part of our anniversary plans, and finding out it was unavailable when we arrived was a huge letdown. We were also very disappointed to discover there was no ability to connect our devices to the tv to view our own media. The location was great, very central with lots of good restaurants nearby. However, the combination of the heating issue, lack of cleanliness, limited towels, and poor communication about the rooftop bar made the experience disappointing overall. The staff themselves were wonderful, but the overall stay did not live up to what we expected for a five-star hotel or for a special occasion.

   This hotel was excellent. Being a five-star hotel there are expectations regarding food, staff, service etc. It lived up to all expectations. The hospitality was impeccable. The friendliness of staff was faultless. All staff at reception, in the restaurants, at the bar, for room service were professional, friendly and efficient. The entrance of this hotel is spectacular with its superb lighting. The room was comfortable and well-serviced each day. We enjoyed the digital lifts and the up-to-date digital environment overall. The central location makes this place a strong choice for future stays. I highly recommend this hotel.

   My second time staying here. First time was so good, I had to bring my husband back for a staycation! Overall a very luxurious stay: Love the complimentary minibar, service is professional and the rooms are quiet and comfortable. This time we ventured down to the pool, spa and sauna which was very relaxing! We even received a free drink from their rooftop bar on arrival which was Devine. Couldn’t recommend enough!

   Great moody vibe and comfortable rooms. I loved that there were local NZ snacks in the minibar that were complementary. The location is central and walking distance to everything however there are clubs nearby which means that it can be noisy at night so remember to bring ear plugs. Unfortunately it was a clubbing night on my last night and I could hear it from my room even though I was fairly high up (level 8)

   The So/ Auckland is a chic hotel, welcoming staff, cool rooftop bar, comfy beds and a good location (apart from being boxed in by questionable "clubs"). The free mini bar (soft drinks and chocolates only - don't expect alcohol) is a nice gimmick. A hotel also needs to provide a quiet room and a great shower. Unfortunately, it doesn't make the grade when it comes to either of these requirements. Over two stays in different rooms, I encountered similar problems - noise from either the service elevator or the club's outside until the very early hours and an extreme lack of water pressure in the shower. Is it a deal breaker, possibly. Will I stay here again, probably - the beds are comfy and staff great - but not over a weekend.
